Thom Hogan has (finally) posted his review of the 24mm 1/1.8G. This is the last review to which I will link in this thread. Here is the list of all the reviews referenced so far in this thread:
Darrin - I appreciate your posting samples and linking reviews for the 24/1.8G. It seems like a pretty remarkable piece of glass, and if I was in the market for a 24mm prime the 24/1.8G would be my first choice.
Unfortunately I have other, more pressing lens needs to fill so for now the 24-120/4 does a reasonably capable job of handling my WA needs. At some point I will need to decide whether to upgrade at 24mm or stick with the zoom and complement with a wider WA like the 20/1.8G or 18-35G.
Given the positive reviews, I am surprised more people are not shooting with the 24/1.8G.
I also had the 24-120 f/4 and used it happily with the D700.
When I upgraded to the D810 I was a little less happy with it at the wide end and decided to replace it with a modern wide prime. The 24mm f/1.8 came at the right moment.
I'm now all primes (24/60/85) and no VR
It seems that many people want wider than 24, especially if they (also) shoot DX, so they got the 20mm (or even wider). Best wishes with whatever decision you make for your kit.
I used the 24/1.8G recently to shoot dance, both in rehearsal as a behind-the-scenes reportage lens, and in the theater at dress rehearsal, like this one.
Tempted to get this lens for indoor restaurant/party/get together pics. I find that my 50 isn't wide enough and the 16-35 isn't fast enough. Would be between this and the sigma art 24 1.4
Is anyone shooting this lens with a DX camera like the D500 by chance?
I'm getting back into photography after a few years off, my favorite focal length is 35mm, but i've decided to go into the D500 and am thinking of this as a good walk around lens on DX.
I used to love the Zeiss 35mm F2 on FX, this seems like the closest and fastest substitute on a DX format.

The 24/1.8G works well on the D500. The full-width AF array really helps with this lens, because you can more easily compose off-center without worrying about field curvature or parallax errors ruining focus when you focus and recompose.
Another landscape with the 24/1.8. This is an amazingly versatile lens: good enough to use for landscape, but it's also a great photojournalist/street photography kind of lens with good performance at closer distances.
