Nice!! I ended up not getting this lens, and got ZF 25/2.8 due to my kit building. However images of 24/1.8 look great due to, of course by the skill of the photographer, but also the lens seem quite good. I wonder why not many others are around shooting and posting with this lens. I may end up with a 35/1.8g at some point. I have too much overlap at 24 range...
Thank you! The lens works very well on the D810.
I'm also making progress learning how to use the highlight-priority metering
Not sure why there aren't more posters with this lens... Probably many prefer the 20mm, or the Sigma 24 f/1.4.
I hope I'm not turning people away with my photos. I'm currently going for a more "natural" look, so I don't move too far from the neutral picture control - as a result, the photos don't "pop" as much as they could
I'm keeping an eye on the ZF thread - you posted some very nice photos there.
The new Nikkor 24mm/1.8 is a very good lens, though it has slightly higher flare in high contrast urban night photography than the Zeiss 25mm/2 Distagon ZF.2. On the other hand the 24mm/1.8 has less corner coma than the Zeiss, clearing up by f/2.8, while the 25mm/2 has to be stopped down to f/4 for the aberration to disappear. The Nikkor's bokeh can be a busy under some conditions, while the Zeiss has quite a bit smoother out of focus rendition.
Here's an HDR night shot with the Nikkor. Notice the round flare patches above the greenhouse. In daylight photography you probably would not encounter this.

I bought the 24mm f1.8G recently to complement the sigma 20mm f1.4 when I need to go lighter.
It is a great match for the D750 also and makes for a very compact/high quality combo! Love it do far to the extend that I sold my 24mm f1.4G.
cheers,
Bernard
Hi there,
You sold your Nikon 24mm 1.4g, are you saying that the 24mm 1.8g is as good as the 24mm 1.4g?
If i am asking it's because i sold my 24mm 1.4g, but i love so much that focal lengh that i want to buy another one, but i'm undecided i i buy again the 1.4g or try the new one 1.8g.
Thanks.
The following 2 photos were generated from the same NEF file, with the same processing applied to them, except for turning Auto Distortion Control on for the second one in Capture NX-D 1.3.1 (D810, 1/50 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600)
You can open them in separate tabs or in separate windows (one on top of the other), or on separate layers, and switch between them to see the difference.

Interesting. So, there is some barrel distortion ? It is one of those thing until I see the 'corrected' version, I don' treally see it.
It almost looks like mustache distortion, but I too think it's just barrel.
It is indeed not really visible until you compare the before and after. Imaging Resource measured it at +0.5% on the D800e.

Those icicle shots are very nice. Very pleasing bokeh too.
Thank you! I shot them at f/1.8 especially for the bokeh.
The corners are a bit weak at this aperture - I will probably stop at f/2 or f/2.8 in the future.
