Spotted owlet, 200-500@500, f7.1, iso 1800, 1/1000s, D500, some cropping. I thought D500 with 200-500 would be enough reach for most purpose, I guess not

Don K, I downloaded your Pine Siskin pic and added a bit of contrast and sharpness to it to see how it looked, and WOW there is a lot of detail in that shot! (and I will delete it from my hard drive in a minute, just wanted to see how it looked with some extra pop)

With the bulk of the pictures exhibited showing a single subject, I have come to the conclusion that this lens is for the birds. Sorry, couldn't resist that. But seriously, is anyone using the lens for anything other than birds or various wildlife subjects?

I used it for hockey, baseball and motorsports.
EDIT: Airhead alert . . . forgot which forum I was in . . . I've never owned the 140-500 Nikkor. So I've never used it for anything.

I got mine today and did the AF tuning. Not enough light for great feather detail, but liking what I see so far. Female grosbeak in the yard. D7200, tripod mounted lens.

The more I used the D500/200-500 combo the more I am impressed with it! Taken with 1.4xTC III. Didn't realize that AF points are selectable even at F/8, not just the center point.
(and I will delete it from my hard drive in a minute, just wanted to see how it looked with some extra pop)
