the d810 shot looks impressive will.
Appreciate it! Not giving up on the D7200 with this lens...but have been
getting better results with the Sig Sport on the cropper. Still new to the
500/600mm FL's, might know what I'm talking about in a few weeks.

yes. over 400mm is a bit of a handful. i always use a monopod with feet on it (sirui 423).
dialing the sigma os to dynamic seems to help too.
now i am used to the sigma i can get as sharp a result as with my 300f4/tc14 combo which is something i didnt expect it to be capable of.
mind you i will keep the nikon and tc for close up stuff like butterflys and dragonflys where it cannot be beaten (for real macro i use the sigma 150).

I'm enjoying everyone's really nice shots with this lens.
After scouting for an upcoming shoot I drove by Sandy Beach and noticed the early morning sun was backlighting the waves.
Decided to stop and photograph a few boogie boarders.
All handheld at 500mm, iso800 with a Nikon d750.

Recently I have started exploring the lens (didnt see much light until now) and am very happy with the results. Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, was wondering if anyone here uses this lens with 1.4TC to get some extra reach and what has been their experience.
Some amazing work using this lens here. Below is my first attempt with the lens and capturing birds. Shot with d610 + 200-500 5.6 at 500mm.

Yesterday I used it on a D7200 with TC-14E III with great results. It will likely be my new kayaking combo though I am not in a huge hurry to buy the D7200 with D400 rumors on the heels of the D5. I will try to post some examples soon (currently decompressing from a week with the house full of inlaws).

Careful AF fine tune is definitely required, out of the box it was wayyyyy off for me. +7 w/naked 200-500 and +12 w/TC-14E III on the D7200 perfected my results. 700mm handheld on DX is incredible for hiking/birding!

Thanks for the headsup. I have never done AF fine tune (just started taking it seriously) What will be the best way to perform AF fine tune for this lens?

Dot-tune method is my go-to and then tweak in the field based on feather detail, though it rarely needs more than one step in either direction. Initial dot-tune method takes only a few minutes, you just need a tripod and an ideal focus subject.

Thank you so much. I am going to fine tune my camera's AF this evening. I found a video by a fellow FM'er explaining the dot tune process.
