When I first bought my D500 I had a Sigma 150-600 for a bit but the focus point would literally jump around. I'd have the point on a subjects eye and it would just jump slightly to the left a tiny bit. I wonder if anyone else has ever had that happen?
Switched to a 200-500 and it has been an amazing lens, my copy seems to be very, very sharp.

Since getting my 500 PF lens 8-10 weeks ago I have not once used the 200-500. I love the lens and will likely not sell it, but use it for a walk around lens in dense woods. But my copy is VERY close to my 500 PF in sharpness. The 500PF is still sharper but it's close.

This is much better and nice job on the white on the breast. I find Loons to be a tough exposure in bright light with the black head and white under body.... much more so than say a mature Bald Eagle.
What an amazing display of biodiversity, optical flexibility, and your skill.
The 200-500 lens gets less love than it should. I have owned two copies and have used them around the world. Optically, the lens stands toe to toe with the more expensive 200-400 VR and performs like a 500 prime when used on a DX body like the D500.
The D500 + 200-500 continue to be the best bang per buck per pixel for a wildlife shooter.
My only gripe is with the build/construction. If Nikon were to redesign the lens with an internal zoom, update the focus motor, and update the coatings, I would gladly spend $3000 on a Z-mount version. Optically, the lens is more than good enough!

Yesterday, I did a lot of searching to find the 200-500 image thread. There were other 200-500 threads, related to problems, etc, but it was difficult finding the original image thread.

I would love to see more of your images, especially in the rain. I like it.
