great shots Lance, some of the best whaling shots i have seen, getting the shots is one thing, getting them in focus with the detail as in these is another, nicely done!
Thank you very much for your kind comments, Brian. Much appreciated!

Can somebody please ID this bird? It is a bit longer (head to tail) than a crow, and a lot chunkier (girth). Hawk of some kind, I am guessing.

The moon was so bright into my bedroom last night I thought I had left the back porch light on, so naturally after I realized what it was I tried to get a good picture of it. I just got this lens but so far I am surprised how hand-holdable it is.

Is there a Photoshop content-aware back-side fill feature that I am unaware of? Spent all summer searching for this iconic loon pose only to have the bird face the wrong way. Grrrrr.

Landscapes using the 200-500 VR
[On a previous drive through Kirkstone Pass, Lake District, UK I used the 105/2.5 PC manual focus lens from road level]
These shots were taken after climbing the slopes opposite the Red Screes. One at 200mm the other 500mm

Sorry for hogging the board.
An RAF Typhoon swept through Kirkstone Pass whilst I was taking pictures of the snake like road.
I was high enough up the slope so that I could look down on the plane as it swooped down into the valley.
