Got caught completely off guard by this Eagle, in an area I have never seen an Eagle in my life. Was messing around with the D810 AF settings, taking pictures at a family outing. I had it in 3D 51pt, didn't have time to prepare but the camera picked up the slack and got ~30 shots with a 100% hit rate. Ended up deleting most of them because they were all about the same haha. Heavy crop, nothing special, but interesting for me:

A weird and somewhat sad experience today. Was out shooting loons when I noticed a seagull sitting in the water - snapped a couple shots then went back to the loons. Didn't think anything of it, but then a few hours later I saw the seagull was still in the exact same spot. I'd never seen a seagull stay in the same place for hours, so I was a bit worried.

I decided to wade out to see if he was trapped, and when I got out there I saw that there was fishing line attached to him. I couldn't see any hook or lure, so I'm not sure if he'd swallowed it or if it was just line wrapped around him. Unfortunately, I couldn't get close enough to inspect things further, as he kept trying to fly away and I was worried about how much that could hurt him, especially if he'd swallowed a hook.
So I got as close as I could and bit through the line. He still had a few feet of line left on him, but hopefully that'll be short enough that it doesn't get caught on anything. I have no idea how extensive his injuries might be, but he was able to fly away after I cut the line so there's a chance he might survive.
Anyways, that adventure was accidental - here are the intended photos from the day. Really need a longer lens for these loons though, these are all heavy crops. Very shy birds.

This was the first adolescent loon I've seen. Two adults have been in the lake quite often for the past couple months, I'm guessing they're the parents.

And one of the parents, just as it started to rain. Rain that the 200-500 handled without issue, knock on wood.
