Very interesting Andy. You thinking about the a7R II as well?
I thought I had settled on the a7R II as my next camera choice, but I'm starting to feel the tug and pull of a both/and decision. These 5DS R images are looking very very good.
Not sure whose worse with the GAS... You or me? We definitely don't need to hang out with credit cards at B&H. My wife would divorce me. Lol!

Definitely YOU!
Kidding aside I would love to go the route you're going (645Z), but that's a ways out of my league (lenses and body considered). Should be absolutely amazing!
Hope your well-cared for stuff sells soon, so you can make that big move to medium format!

I believe the 1Dx sold tonight - will know for sure tomorrow morning. If so, I'm ordering the 645z Monday. Yeah!
As for the 5Ds/R, I was a huge advocate even keeping my pre-order until last week. But for the first time since I can remember I'm just not "feeling" it with this release. Some amazing images are being posted which I'm enjoying, it just hasn't given me the "wow" effect... yet. Maybe I was expecting too much or looking at too many MF images the past two months? Either way, it's YOU that has the GAS problem. Haha
Took out my 5DS for an hour today, and it's like a 5D3 but on steroids! I Love it! Can't wait to spend next Saturday with it. It's extremely sharp and accurate!

Another WoW from me.
Could you post a couple of 100% crops from that shot? That particular lens at f/8 on that camera is a likely common scenario for me if I get the 5Ds R - that's looking more likely every day
Thanks
Andy
Andy, here are 2 100% crop form the lower part of the frame. However please note that the city is being fog in the dawn timing (the city is hot by the sun light in day time, so the hot air from the city emit to the cooler air at night and make the fog), this may not good for resolution or moire test

Computer is good... Sandy Bridge-E I7 with ASRock Extreme 11, 32 GB, FirePro W5000 and NEC PA's - fast and 10-bit/channel color. This old computer game developer always overbuys (we were always targeting machines two years forward) Looking at getting a dedicated SSD for the LR Catalog
Yeah, despite leveling, I was off a few percent. Never be perfect.. but even autostitch got confused on a seven shot pan (it was not only the 300/2.8, but with the Tele 2X - shooting from seven miles away elevated from the west). I also have a hilltop near Boulder City zip line that gives me views.
Using long tele is always too tough to do stitching, windy condition also easy to make tiny bur, also have you correct the distortion before the stitch, the tiny exposure different between shots during the shooting process also need to be adjust before stitch, I found somehow it will affect the computer process too.
Renting an Otus is very dangerous and addictive!
You won't rest well till you buy one.
Bye bye kidney!

Many thanks Darbo. The lens is sharper than my Sigma 150mm macro... it has ruined me! Now I have to give the 50mm f/2 Zeiss a try Would love to shoot the Otus 85mm .. that one I'd have to rent. ... as selling a kidney is not an option at this moment in time.

I will hold out as long as possible. Not the the Sigma 85 is in the same league... but I did notice on the 5Ds it looks great. All the lenses look pretty amazing on the camera... from the test shots I've taken. As mentioned early on in the thread by someone... I want to go back and shoot everything I've ever shot over again. I feel like I was cheated in the past. I'm now seeing details I never saw from the previous cameras.

Thanks KK, The atmospheric conditions are on the list of things that can obviate the need for an AA filter Even so, the images are impressive. Thanks for sharing.

I have found that Hugin is very robust for stitching panoramas. Small exposure differences, lens distortion issues, and small blurs are all accounted for by the software. In extreme cases you can use manual point selection to perfect the stitch (I''ve only had to do that once, when I had almost no overlap between panels).
Please stop using this camera for birds in flight... it is specifically to be used for portraits and landscapes.. and occasional architecture shots. j/k but after reading a number of reviews leading up to the release of the camera/s, one would think you can't shoot anything else. I can't wait to see some sports shots with it.
Really like the images... the yellow is intense without being over the top. The pelican shot is great!
You brought a smile to my face, and thanks for the kind compliment!
To think I almost did not buy the camera due to all the naysayers. Thank goodness I did, because it is such an amazing camera. I find myself just staring at the details. I can never go back now to 22MP. 😍
