I shot two weddings this past weekend using the 5DS. I have a 5DSR on order, but may cancel as i am very happy with the non R version. The camera performs well in dimly lit churches, even when 6400 ISO isn't enough and I have to push it to get the image to my expectations.
I love having all of the extra mega pixels for cropping reasons too.
The large files are annoying as they eat up space quickly and this probably won't be my main wedding camera shooting as many weddings as i do. I also did shoot full resolution to one card and mRaw to another, but haven't had time to compare.
Here is an image w/ a 100 % crop. it has basic editing. Image was taken w/ 5DS + 70-200mm 2.8 IS L II @ 180mm, f/2.8, ISO 100, from about 20-25 feet away.

Please stop using this camera for birds in flight... it is specifically to be used for portraits and landscapes.. and occasional architecture shots. j/k but after reading a number of reviews leading up to the release of the camera/s, one would think you can't shoot anything else. I can't wait to see some sports shots with it.

I think it will do well for motorsports - either for pan shots or deep crops. I might do some short track next week - but hoping to really work it out at Mont Tremblant at a viintage event (if the credentials arrive) in a few weeks. I have to say though - when I visited CPS at WPPI/Vegas - with their 5DS / 5DS R demos - and I said sports - they jumped all over me telling me it was only for Landscape and Studio. Seems to have been a marketing directive designed not to step on the toes of their 5Dm4 and 1DXII teams. Personally I think a 5D3/5DS combo for weddings/event or 1DX/5DS combo for sports would be ultimate.
Before getting the 5DS I mainly took all my images using a 500mm + 1.4x extender. With the 5DS I now find myself shedding the 1.4x due to the cropping/MPs of the camera. I almost forgot how beautiful F4 looks. 😉

^Amazing bird captures - everyone of them. The detail is fantastic and the color is perfect.
In my mind - especially for wildlife shooters with the super telephotos - the 5DS seems like an excellent camera for birds.
It may not have the FPS as the 7D2 but I have found that the 5DS in all points AI servo focusing mode is much faster than my 7D2. I have tried to do close shots of Hummingbirds with the 7D2 and ended up manually focusing. With the 5DS it can focus accurately and more quickly in all points mode with my 500mm lens. I started manually focusing the Hummers in the first few days I had the 5DS but have now gone to auto-focusing with this lens and camera combination when shooting the Hummingbirds. Still am experimenting with different subjects, but so far I am impressed with the auto-focus speed of this camera.
Picked up an R last week and a quick two night overnight let me play with it a little.
First impressions are as favourable as I have felt about a camera.
Very surprised by the detail in the images and also the ability to crank shadows then hit them with noise reduction yet not lose detail as it was loaded to start with.
Very good AF and as a package it will make a great tool.

Agree its quite advantageous having all the extra detail some of which you can sacrifice at higher ISO's to get cleaner files..then after resizing you have a very clean image.
Lots of experimentation to come.
One more from a shot that has been heavily edited..the shadows have been heavily lifted and if it was a 5Dmk3 from experience heavy artifacting would of occurred.

Nice captures Cliff. So... what are your thoughts about the 5Dsr?

Well, after using Nikon and Sony 36MP cameras and Nikon and Sony's best lenses for the past couple of years, I would sum up the 5D SR experience (so far) in two words...
So can anyone comment on ISO 6400 compared to the 5D3? I realize this isn't a "low light" camera, but I was curious if anyone has any general feelings on it.

Holy F**k!
I've said the same thing a few times since the 5Ds arrived.
