Hatch, you never struck me as a cat dude. great shots.

ROFL! Well... I bounced all over the globe while in the Air Force.. and it was easier to have cats as pets. My wife is a cat fan and has never had a dog. I prefer dogs. Cats are alright... no issues with them. We had 2 cats until my wife took in 2 stays before we moved to our new home. SO..... my wife is turning into the crazy cat lady. I'm just along for the ride

Arenot we all? No judgment. We had a cat for 18 years till January, when she passed away. They are much lower maintenance.

Sorry for your loss... that is a good run for a cat. It is nice to not have to have a sitter when we leave for a few days at a shot. I do love dogs and would love to have one... but.. 4 cats and a dog? Might as well start a small petting zoo ROFL

One of the advantages I am realizing about the 5DS is that you can compose with extra room and then crop later. So, when in doubt about composition, pick the wider option and tighten the crop in post-processing.

Especially if you are using the pixel size to get as many pixels on the duck as you can with, say, a 7D2, you get extra room around the intended image so you can (servo) track and compose (either realtime or later as you say) better than with the crop camera ...

No. DoF is a function of print size (and 5 other variables). For the 5DS it would only be affected by printing at a different size than usual (bigger, presumably), or cropping more than you might have in the past on a full-frame, or viewing at 100% on the monitor.

First photo with the 5DsR. The detail is astonishing, and those files are just huge! I picked up a 128GB 1066x Lexar CF anticipating the need to move data as quickly as possible but I still run up against the buffer when shooting a bunch of bracketed shots. Anyone else feel like they have to revisit every place they've ever taken a photo now?

Exactly, I plan to revisit every scene. Things do get slower with that much data. The one I notice most is when running Topaz denoize. While running it does not allow exiting and doing other stuff. I am finding other ways to do NR in ACR.

I agree. Topaz Denoise is the biggest slow down spot in my work flow with these RAW files.

I got a 64 GB 800x and a couple of 32 GB SD, which is a big step up from the two 4GB 60x I've been using for about 8 years.

Just ran a 3 image HDR in ACR, that was pretty slow too.

I would love to - but I may need to win the lottery to be able to do it now...

I got an Err 20 with my 5DS R.

It occurs when I try shooting stills after taking video. This happened during a party.

I was able to resolve it the first time by reinserting the battery, as stated in the screen.

On the second go I simply turned off then turned on the camera.

Although I do not expect this camera to be used primarily to do videos with I hope it gets resolved through future firmware.

Very nice landscape shot... and yes... I feel the exact same way... I want to go shoot everything I've ever shot... again.

Sorry to hear about the error... that's never fun

Just curious. Has anyone seen the expected shutter life published by Canon for the 5DS/R? I was wondering about that and looked at the specs at two sites and I didn't see it.

Hmm, assuming the error codes are common across Canon bodies, error 20 means "malfunction with the mechanical mechanism has been detected.".

Nice shot VKM2F!

Though I suspect a 1Ds Mark II would have captured it just as well, save the resolution.

Planning on printing it LARGE?
