I am finding the 5DS makes a very good wildlife camera. Just have to keep my shutter speeds fast.

Showing 100% crops is misleading. If you printed a 5DS at 300ppi, you get an image that is 19x29 (rounded). If you view a 100% crop on your monitor, you are looking at a print size 65x98 based on 88DPI monitor pixels.

Tried my 16-35 f/4 IS today. The edges performed better than I expected but there is a hint of softness of the right side @ infinity that wasn't obvious when using the lens on my 5D. I imagine many are going to discover decentering on their lenses @ 50MP that they never saw before.

Yes... the 5DSR has made it painfully obvious that I cannot get sharp images hand-holding my 400mm f5.6L.

I think you can get sharp photos with 400mm F5.6.
My first attempt was not so great. Then I started using faster shutter speeds.

The 400mm F5.6 is certainly a sharp lens. used that for years

I plan to have one 5DsR with the 100-400 II glued on it. The IS helps even with the 50MP sensor. I would not use the 400/5.6 anymore.

Grabbed my new 5DS with Zeiss Otus 1.4/55mm ZE and took it for a first spin over my lunch hour today. Cannot wait to get some quality time with it...

Just an alert here, one of my friend informed me he scratched his 5Ds CMOS surface while he was cleaning it manually by the Eclipse liquid set. He said he found the sensor surface is not smooth like the 1Dx's but too late when he found his 5Ds sensor was scratched.

I also clean my 1Dx CMOS by the Eclipse occasionally but haven't start to clean my 5DsR's because there is still no dust find after several use of the camera. I'm lucky.

Interesting. However since there is a filter covering the sensor it was the filter that probably was scratched
Would be interested if this is an issue. I use sensor swabs and the eclipse liquid when I finally have to. Clean the sensor area. Would prefer not doing damage in the process

After breaking the 1ds3 sensor sometime in 2008 while cleaning it, I have never touched a sensor since. The anti dust models are far more fragile. I had to send my 1DS3 in twice a year to have it cleaned. I never had to send in the 5D3. I had hand cleaned my 10,20 and 5D with no issue.

It will be interesting to confirm (or deny) this third-hand report, and whether (or more likely not) it is a real issue.

I'm surprised to hear that someone had to wet-clean such a new camera, especially one with a sensor dust removal system built in. Something quite unusual may be going on here. My experience with heavily used DSLRs that have dust reduction systems built in is that the need for any other sensor cleaning methods is greatly reduced and the need for wet-cleaning is nearly eliminated.

Hassy99, Ben and Dan,

Up to this moment I find no dust issue on my 5DsR, I believe the built in dust removal system is a more advance one, so I also don't understand why my friend doing hand clean to a brand new camera (he may treat his new camera like his new car, wax it ). The worst thing is that there is no parts for repair in recent, my friend have to wait for further notice from CS.

Anyway I wouldn't do hand clean for my 5DsR even there is dust on the sensor until the market have specific tool for this new sensor. Just hope the new mechanism (shutter, mirror box and dust removal system) can let us never need manual clean service.

I don't really understand how you can break the sensor, unless you are applying force when cleaning

My original 5D sensor got dirty just looking at it so I found myself cleaning it a lot, more than any other camera I ever owned. My 1Ds2, 1D3 and 1D2's require regular cleaning, from dust AND oil spots.

I haven't had to clean my 6D sensor since I bought it in December 2013. Not once.

I'm hoping I won't need to clean my 7D2 sensor. But if it becomes necessary I'll do it myself.

The 1ds3 sensor low pass filter was only half as thick as a 5D2. The low pass filter has an air gap between it and the sensor, this allows it to shake. Pre dust clean models did not have this gap and you could apply lots of pressure.

Both the 1Ds III and 5D II have the sensor cleaner. Are you saying the 5D II was different for some other reason?

The low pass filter was much thicker on the 5D2 which I think had the same sensor as the 1DS3.The low pass filter is what you break and the 5D2 was stronger. The 1d3 was probably the same as the 1DS3, but smaller, which would make it stronger as well. Also, the 1ds3 is hermetically sealed so Canon replaces the entire assembly. My insurance paid them around $2300. The 5D2 was not sealed and the low pass filter could be replaced by itself.

I picked up a used but in mint condition Canon 200mm F/2.8 and these are just some snaps from this morning. I missed the lens and had to have another one. Great chunk of glass for the price.
