Significant is an understatement! What could possibly be in the works for the Pro camera that's supposed to be hitting the end of the year? This camera hits the market at exactly the right time especially with the airlines announcing today that carry-on baggage requirements are now going to be much smaller. The 4K video is truly amazing can't wait to see one of the still files. I just sold my Nikon D800e and most of my lenses which makes me very happy. If the first statements about the metabones adapter and Canon optics are correct this is truly a game changer. Can't wait to put the Canon 1.2 lenses on thea7r Mark 2 . I want to wait eight months for the price to drop but have no doubt that will be totally impossible.
Im not sure what a Pro body would be at the end of the year. I can't even find anything to yawn about on this one.
I really wish I had it for a gig in NY towards the end of July. Its about 15 thousand images I need to shoot doing runway in 4 days. I'll use my A7II like last January but I would love to have this one on hand.
The only thing that is missing is dual SD slots. Considering the amazing Zeiss FE glass available for this system, there is really no reason for me to go back to Canon now.

See that comment right there just made Sonys day. They had to do nothing to make you think this way but to build a product that will work for you. Thats what good products should do.
This is a lot better than I anticipated. This is insane for Sony, it's hitting basically everything that the a7r missed. I doubt I'll be upgrading due to funds, but this sounds like the most "do it all" camera ever made. Low light with BSI and IBIS, very high resolution, 4k video, and better AF than before. I'm floored

I'm willing to bet this is the supposed "pro" camera. IMO all that A9 stuff was fabricated clickbait on SAR for the fanboy dreamers. He clearly doesn't have the inside stuff anymore, because he had nothing on this, the RX100 or the RX10 announcement. He had nothing on the A7II either. No specs, no announcement date, nothing. Dual cards means an even bigger body and this is already getting chunky.
Just wanted to point out 42mp is about 8k. So, uh, the future of video on the A7R line is very bright indeed. Basically, we're going to have a direct upgrade path from 4k to 8k video with future improvements to the imaging processor. It sounds like the sensor can already oversample 8k down to 4k.

I didn't read anything about EFC but the new shutter mechanism is reported to improve the shutter vibration up to 50%... Whatever that means .
not sure if you were reading the article from PRNewswire, but the statement below (obtained directly from the article) translated to a 50% reduction in shutter vibration.
"The a7R II has a new highly durable reduced-vibration shutter that realizes 50% less vibration from shutter movements compared to its predecessor,..."

The 7974px wide is basically double the pixels of 4k, it may have to do with multiples of 4k to get better downsampling when shooting FF.
4k video looks amazing:
I'm pretty curious about this, if its not line skipping for 4K than it must be cropping more than APS-C, and the combination of no AA filter and line skipping doesn't seem suported by the video samples I'm looking at. All will be revealed in the fullness of time I suppose.

EFC
"Designed to last, the updated magnesium alloy body has improved weather sealing and a robust lens mount for working with large lenses. Also, the shutter has a reduced-vibration design, cutting down shutter vibrations by about 50%. Also, it now uses an electronic front curtain shutter and is rated for 500,000 cycles. Silent shooting is also available for a quiet shooting experience when needed. "
This may be my next canon body. only weakness is batter life. but if the reports of how well it works with canon lenses for AF holds, what is there not to like?
Battery life is markedly better. I had a thread around here somewhere, but I got roughly 360 shots off of ~40% battery usage. Just turn it off when not in use and it really extends the battery. Though, after a year, I get a cliff at 6% to Battery Exhausted state....

SAR is getting pretty pathetic! This was a 150% miss.

It has two modes, S35 and FF. That video is labeled at S35, presumably because its a full readout of the crop and its much better in terms of aliasing and moire - and hopefully rolling shutter. I'm sure this will be the better option for 4k video. But having two FL's with the push of a couple buttons (unless they finally enable it on a custom button) without changing lenses is awesome. DR doesn't look at good as the A7s, but we'll have to wait for more comprehensive tests.

Doesn't it use the same battery as the A7r? The A7r battery life sucks
Yikes this makes me regret buying the Nikon 2 days ago haha oh well it will last me till August and then I'll replace it with this nice awesome camera. 55mm and 85mm is gonna be a beast on this camera. Also who needs the Sony 24-70 f4 when you can grab the canon 24-70 mark ii and actually af on this camera now. My mind is blown lol! I am sorry for the people grabbing the 5dsr, this camera is just 5 times better. Can't say much until we see samples, but the original a7r already out performed the 5ds/r.
Price is whatever if you want it you'll get it regardless if it's overpriced or not. 3200 sounds a lot better then 3800 for the 5dsr. The Nikon d810 is only 2200 brand new these days lol.

It looks like it's combining sub-pixels; if it's turning a 2x2 Bayer patch into a single pixel, which would eliminate quite a bit of artifact possibilities, then it should put out some really, really clear, really sharp video.
Only real complaint is that it's cropping full-frame for 4k to begin with; so you get the choice of full-frame DOF control at 1080p, or sharp 4k output with a Super35 crop.
But that's not really a complaint; just something to be worked around- and it's not like Canon has a better solution .
