Good catch !!! it says A7R below the photo, but the largest size shown is 8910 x 6300 ! So you are right :-) !!
Hope it is real and not interpolated !

Sorry to burst that.. but its interpolated. Very visible zig-zag pattern on eyelashes. etc.

And the 85 1.8 MTF is up as well on Lloyd's blog, it is looking good, very good
Although it has some waviness, boy can it hold up its own against the 100MP and also beat it in several sections of the frame.

Smaller, lighter, AF to boot (need to see how AF actually performs in the real world).
I can sense my wallet getting lighter already!

zig-zag? are you looking at the full size orig or the tiny version linked/posted here?

when SAR posted the SR3 rumor based on this shot, they mentioned the camera is 'hand held' for this shot and that made it less likely to have been interpolated (I've never used interpolated cameras so I don't know)

Sorry, didn't realize that he didn't put the distortion graph on the article page - it's on his blog's main page at this link:
http://diglloyd.com/index.html

To quote Lloyd re: the 25/2:

"Distortion is typical for most wide angle designs in the 24/24mm range—about 1.5% with a mostly barrel distortion transitioning to pincushion at the edges and into the corners (“wave type distortion”)."

Looks like it is optimized for software correction, with hint of some CA in the MTF, and some distortion.

The corners look impressive!

+1 to that. I wouldn't be shocked either way to be honest and am not attached to the outcome (i.e., if it is interpolated or otherwise). Anyway, I downloaded the file and am looking at it at 100% and I do not see the zig-zag lines.

Edit: I stand corrected. I did find some spots with some funkiness going on. For example, If you look at the original picture at 100% and look at the outer section of the model's right eyebrow, you see a set of diagonal lines (going from NW to SE and parallel to each other).

Absolutely interpolated. And if it wasn't, I wouldn't touch that 56 MP camera. It looks awful at 100%

As some posters have pointed out the image is not in 3:2 aspect ratio. If it is a crop from a 3:2 shot then the original shot would be 59-60MP. So unless there is a rumor for a 60MP sensor, this doesn't add up. Also it would be rather strange that zeiss would sneak in an A7rII image and then try to hide it as A7r.

It is obviously hand-held though, as you can see the reflection of the photographer in her eyes

But yeah, it's not terribly sharp anywhere at 100%. Beats me why they'd upload an interpolated image though.

To start new rumors?

Also I find noise pixels to be slightly too big (usually noise comes at least in this camera in almost single pixels).

If it has been upscaled, which perhaps it was, that is certainly a rather bizarre thing to do for a Flickr post. Maybe someone at Zeiss wanted to have a little fun with us.

, not that I care if it's the next FE camera or not. It was taken at WO and handheld. If you guys expect it to be tack sharp, you will be disappointed when this thing is actually out. This is how the shutter vibration on the A7r got blown out of proportion.

Back to the Batis 85. Guys, this is the ZM 85/2 (the sharpest 85 stopping down) reincarnation. The MTF is quite close to each other. I bet the the distortion chart is not too far off (1% barrel). Man, I don't really like to shoot with AF lenses, but these two lenses, they are just out of this world really considering the relatively affordable price. I hope the focus feel is good.

Edit: never mind... an 85 with 3% pincushion.... Well I guess it would make the intended subject much thinner and taller , a dream lens for any girl

I think its clever marketing. The rumor sites generate lots of clicks and its being discussed on photo forums. Someone had a great idea for some free advertising. Flat out brilliant.

I'm not impressed by the landscape shot with the 25/2. The edges/corners look weak even on the A7II:

There is also distortion evident on the water line in the *middle* of the frame, and a good dose of light fall-off. The light fall-off looks to have been partly corrected, leaving some ugly shadow detail in the left hand corner foreground.

It's most likely just a mistake, someone entered the wrong number into a box and upscaled the image isntead of downscaling or whatever else they were trying to do. Mistakes happen all the time, no conspiracy and no secret 60MP camera prototype necessary to explain this one...

Sure, you're probably right Matt. But where is the fun in that explanation? You're a cold wet blanket of realism...hehe.

Now let's get back to talking about this incredibly exciting new 22-stop DR 60MP curved a7R II sensor, shall we?

I'm confused about the 85/1.8 excitement. Even Lloyd is talking enthusiastically about the MTF charts and mostly dismissing the crazy high distortion as "oh we'll just turn distortion correction on." Those MTF charts are with distortion correction off; they're going to fall off a cliff when you turn it on.

'they're going to fall off a cliff when you turn it on.'

Lee, you can inform yourself about distortion here:
http://toothwalker.org/optics/distortion.html

But just a few notes on why your dramatic comment is misleading - once placed in context.
Distortion is the kindest aberration for lens designers to grapple with, and in modern digital era lens design one they will let 'float' more as a trade off for other far more important considerations - like cost, size and weight, and other aberration control. The best lenses will of course exhibit very little of it - for this FL range 0.5-1.0%.

You have to realize distortion is an outer frame phenomenon for the most part, as it increases with image height - this is why makers provide charts so users can evaluate a plot of the aberration. [As an aside it varies with other attributes, factors which may have been written into the correction data, perhaps including focal distance.]

The reason why distortion is one aberration CZ have not worried much about in many lenses is that it is easily and, in image quality terms, fairly painlessly dealt with. They rightly point out that 2% is the general threshold for even noticing distortion in final images, and that is the figure of many fine Zeiss lenses - primes as well as zooms. The 50MP has 1.5%, the ZE 35/2 over 2% for example.

Now, designers must consider use cases for lens - not many users of fast 85s are going be worried about edge distortion for f1.8-f2.8 shots, it's almost all OOF. Even stopped down for open landscape work it's still not a big concern, if best quality in the outer frame is needed. But, and this is important - nothing will diminish the central image quality of this lens. They are not alone...>

"other high-end cameras have been doing it for years. Every single Hasselblad H-series body (those with a dedicated digital back) corrects for its 28mm f/4 lens this way, as has Phase One. And that Leica S system? Yup. All the lenses are imperfect and corrected digitally."

The Leica Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH has about 2.4%.
