Congratulations to Hardcore for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 14 votes - View Previous Winners

These shots were taken in the blue hour. I could not believe the activity so soon on before the sky was even completely dark. I think that contributed greatly to the red/purple fringing colour. It was a pretty amazing storm and I would be surprised if we don't see more shots from last night and the night before posted shortly.

I had trouble processing these because of the extreme colors captured in camera. To be honest, the greens were magnificent and you could see them very brightly and I could easily compose through the viewfinder to get the reflections on my F2.8 14-24mm. They had some red/purple fringing that could also be seen with the naked eye but the camera captured more colour. As you can see the sunset glow is still there in the first few shots. No saturation added and vibrance set at 18 in case your wondering.

Thanks for looking,
Corey

I stopped a timelapse I was shooting when I saw this great white shark appear!

Taken later in the night... around 12pm. Normal aurora this time.

Incredible series Corey. Voted!

I went out last night after 10 and got a very weak showing. It was stronger at 9:30 when I was driving home to get my gear. I heading to one lake hoping to find some water for reflections...no dice. Too early here for that. Hope the sun is not done for the season!

These are spectacular! I'm impressed with the shark.

The last one is my favorite of the series.

Hey Corey,

Wow... these are so awesome!!!! You nailed it here. I like each of these, and I can imagine the colors were just out of this world intense.

Where was this taken? I definitely need to make a trip just to shoot the Aurora.

Jim

Love them all. The third one pops for me as the aurora reflection passes through the rocks and adds interest to them, whereas in the other photos they're easier to ignore.

Awesome, was too cloudy here last night, I'll be going out tonight to shoot some other things, hopefully they'll still be some activity as we're supposed to be getting some clearer skies.

Thanks Scott! Ya, I had to be quick to act. A facebook group alerted me to Aurora down south and our Sun was just about to set up north so I had to hurry to get to my spot. When I went outside, I could already see the faint glow of Aurora.

Thanks Jim. I'm in Northern Saskatchewan. About 55 degrees north. We have some nice lights. Usually this time of year is the best for whatever reason. If I had to pick a spot to go to photograph aurora though, Iceland would be on my short list!

Thanks for your comment. I agree, it does make the rocks pop!

They are still calling for them tonight. I hope it clears up. Nothing more frustrating than being awake at night knowing the aurora are buzzing above the clouds above you.
