Last night when I went to check on some stuff in my front yard, a great horned owl took off from my rooftop and landed on the neighbor's fence. I ran inside and grabbed the camera Not the greatest shot/conditions as it was pretty dark out and I had to really bump up the ISO. But, it was very cool to see him/her. Last year we had four of them in the area and they would call out to each other in the morning...cool looking bird of prey.
Very real I promise. And it took two weeks of waiting for the Blue-J to land where I wanted him...and that was with temping him with shelled peanuts. I planted that bush three years ago hoping

How prone is this lens to copy variations, any experience? I'm planning to get a used one, and I'm wondering how to test it before I spend money, and what to pay attention to make sure, it's sharp wide open.

I've never heard of any 300PF that wasn't spot on stellar in performance. When you buy used try to 'investigate' if the lens was ever dropped/overall condition/ how it was treated.
