Just to reiterate what Robert said above. The 500PF on commlite on A9 FW 6.0 which should be the best possible scenario is absolute garbage. Robert predicts Christmas for it to obtain focus....I'd say maybe Easter

It is a Common Nighthawk. They fly low over the water to get a drink and then fly back high to catch insects. I always knew them as Bullbats growing up as that was the common name for them.

Never seen it before but the first thing I thought was bat mixed with bird. Looked it up and I saw it has a tiny tiny beak which makes it look more like a bird but the shot you captured was half and half bird/bat

I often go to a stock pond and sit to get photos of wildlife. I knew the nighthawks came in and got drinks while on the fly but never seen it up close. Ive been working on getting a shot like this for two or three years and everything came together that day. The wind has to be in the right direction, the sun can't be too low in the sky and I have to be hidden in shadows enough for them to not see me at least until the last moment. They are very erratic when they fly in so it can be a tough shot.
The first time I got a shot with the mouth open I called it a bass bird. You just don't see or realize that mouth can open that wide.
These are some photos from the last couple of years before I got the 300pf. All with a Nikon 70-200.

These photos are too small to make a valued judgement. Can you post them at least 1800 pixels on the long end, more would be better.

Taken on a mtn bike ride in early winter in a regional park near my house. The beauty of the 300pf for me is that I can carry it in a holster strapped to the shoulder straps of my camelbak biking pack...and have a 'real' camera ready to go at a moment's notice for something like this....
