I'm thinking of getting one of those new stable fishing kayaks and instead of installing the fishing rod holders I was going to centre-mount a gimbal/ball head system and also install a small electric motor for silent cruising, BUT, could you please give me/us a link to any pics of your kayak set-up because I'm seriously worried about the camera system ending up in the drink.
Thanks for taking the time,

Hi Bruce,
Any pictures that I might post would be very boring. I simply use a very stable recreational kayak - the Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 - and then hold my camera and lens in my hands (unsupported by any tripod) to shoot. When not shooting, my camera gear sits in an open bag that I place between my legs. That gear combination (D500, 300mm f/4 PF, and 1.4x TC) is small enough and light enough that I can hold it and shoot with it with one hand, if needed. My camera gear is insured, but I do put it in a sealed dry bag when I am getting into and out of the kayak. There are numerous threads on this website regarding kayaking setups for photography. Simply use the search function to pull up some of those threads. They contain great information and alternative setups for kayaking photography. I have never used a full super telephoto lens set up (i.e., long lens with tripod and gimbal head support) in a kayak, but some folks do. I have tried the new 500mm f/5.6 PF lens on the D500 while kayaking, but found that a tiny bit too big and heavy for my style of kayaking photography. However, that gear combination will likely work really well for many folks. Like the use of the 300mm PF, that setup does not required support.
I will get stuck into the research and see what comes up.
I do own the 300mm PF and the 1.4 MK III and 1.7 MK II T/C's and it seems to really like the 1.7X for some reason, but then I think that we are getting away from what we are trying to achieve in having a light weight, close-up stealth vehicle.
Again I thank you for taking the time to reply.

Love this Hatch.
Found myself grabbing the 300 PF as my 500mm was too long, it didn't disappoint, these birds (Red Kites) dive fast and pick up food on the wing:-
