Finally got a copy of 300/4 PF today. I love the size and the weight. Don't really have anything decent to try the lens on but hopefully the next 10 days or so I will have some opportunities to really try it out. Here is a quick try.
AF with TC-E14 III was really fast but with TC-E20 III, it was having difficulty locking on the subject quite a bit at F8 but doable with relatively steady subject I think.

Has anybody tried using this lens for portraits, candids, etc? I'd love to see some examples of that if possible.
I wanted to ask the same exact thing Even though I have no plans on getting rid of my 70-200VRII, I'd like to use the 300PF on my second body for shooting events.
I will most likely rent one and see if I like it...
At times when I really want this lens, I think about a 1.4x extender I could slap on my 70-200VRII and make it a 280mm f/4. Yeah, it will be way heavier and way bigger but I'll save tons of moola...

Not tons... just a few K.
It's a great small lens.
I took a few shots of a friend today with 300/4 PF @F4. All were shot in NEF, opened in Capture NX-D and exported to PS in tiff for resizing and conversion to jpg for web only. No other post processing at all.
Just for comparison, I took a few shots with 58/[email protected] also but could not get quite the same angle unfortunately but she stood roughly in the same spot.
