Yes, but I just signed on to FM and a recent "thread winner" on the front page made me think: Perfect candidate for the Black Bandit - https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1333850 (Top picture but also some of the others. That is the exact type of lens flare I've seen affected by the banding.)

Even if it did happen, cropping out the top 5% of the photo wouldn't have ruined it. And it still probably would have been one in a thousand or so. I usually take a few of the same shots anyways to make sure I got a good one. Not saying it isn't annoying, but not enough to make me not purchase this camera. The price vs the performance, nothing else comes close in my opinion. Iv'e taken shots with my D750 with flare about like that one, still have not seen it show up. Only time I have seen it was when I was in LV testing for it in my house.

I still have not seen one good exposure been ruined by the "banding" I've seen a few over exposed images from the beginning of the thread that I would consider total rejects
JackiDee you show us some very good images from Lisa Holloway. Why don't you show us some of your "good" images that have been made useless do to this "banding"?
Brett also told us that he was able to reproduce the "weird flare". Can you show as a "well exposed backlit shot" that has been ruined with the "banding"

What does "well exposed" mean in an art form where exposure is often used as part of creative expression? The images in the OP would be considered "well exposed" to any number of observers. Why should an FM'er go out of his way to take a photo for your exposure critique/approval for an issue that you're already convinced doesn't affect you?

Lisa Holloway's are "well exposed" and "good shots" If you consider the OP images "well exposed" and "good images" than you and me have nothing to talk about...
I'm still waiting for JackiDee's and Brett's ruined shots by the "weird flare"
Do you have any.....?

Nicolaus....You consider those two pictures "good shots"?
Go through Lisa Holloway's photos and take a few tips on what a "backlit photo" should be like.

They're nice wedding/portrait shots just like the thousands I've seen with the typical backlight haze, and I don't see anything wrong with them. Not groundbreaking or award-winning but definitely good shots. No need to be condescending about others' work

The issue is that the flare pattern starts abruptly near the top of the image and the area above it is rather free from flare. If the whole image suffered more or less uniformly from flare it would not look so odd, though it would be undesirable to many users.

The artistic value of the images is really not the point here.

For giggles, here is another example of hard edge lens flare but you have to go to a video archive or Netflix. The series MI-5, Vol. 5, episode 4. World Trade, @ 54 min 42 seconds. A bright backlight to camera right creates this flare, it is not the camera.

Believe me when I say this, there is nothing wrong with your D750.

Hi again - Just chiming back after mentioning Lisa Halloway's flare shots, which was in the the spirit of irony, not to malign a good camera. (Sorry to stoke a fire that was finally dying down!) I haven't thought so much about lens flare as I have since this thread started. First, I was annoyed that my new camera may have an issue that might limit my creativity, then I tested it out and realized it was nothing I couldn't work around, like I do with any particular limitation of my gear/software/subject/lighting/skill, etc. I'm keeping the camera. I'm sure I will get various bad shots for a variety of reasons. And I will redo or crop or delete and hopefully learn, like I usually do. Anyway, it was just ironic that when I finally reached peace about this issue, I sign on to this website and see all of those nice non-D750 flare pics! That's all.

Believe me when I tell you this: a lens flare does not generate a straight line across the frame. The flare might be the light source, but to my knowledge the Laws of Physics have not been repealed.

Hear me now and believe me later: you are missing the point.

Nope, sorry I am not. THE point of this thread was to criticize the D750 and to accuse Nikon for producing a flawed camera. I have discussed several occurrences of this flare effect on many different cameras including 35 mm cinema cameras and 4x5 film cameras.

This is NOT a problem with the camera, it is an effect generated by lens flare, like it or not.

Well of course flare can be caused by the lens, but it should not look like that in combination with the body. The body must be designed to work well with lenses - it's rather useless without one. The fact that the images have that funky flare edge is reason enough to prompt Nikon to look at what if anything can be done to reduce the effect. Nikon will do nothing if people don't complain about it, not that there is any guarantee they will do anything. However, complaints of the oil issue in the D600 finally generated some action.
