Why the DR theme pops up so often now in threads here is simply because of the refusal of many fanboys here to accept that there is better sensor technology out there which many customers prefer to have. That Canon currently has no new sensor in sight of appearance adds to this behavior.

No, it is that you and others can't comprehend that we do understand the DR advantages and that we use more than a sensor to take our photographs. We are happy with our systems and will be even happier when Canon improves the sensors that go with our systems.

Well, but such Canon sensor is not in sight yet - that's why those things always will come up. Proves my point that some who criticize people mentioning the Exmor advantages would rather have the same sensor in their camera, too

I'm sure the future holds a number of different and better sensors that are not in sight yet. And if so, why would I not want a better sensor than an Exmor one

Absolutely. Then there is no reason to criticize those who express the desire to have and use new sensor based technology!

What you call trolling is just that people express their dissatisfaction with Canon's current path in regard to sensor development. I already criticized the lack of a better FF sensor in the 5D MkIII after it was released in 2012. It seems to me that one side just clearly brings the issue on the table what Canon brand defenders (we can discuss the reasons for this, but this would go too far off topic) now determine as trolling. Sounds like that some only want to see Canon glorified but not criticized at all. I simply see Canon in a mixed

Mentioning the Exmor advantages is one thing. Harping on it obsessively is another. Until Canon decides to move forward on that front, it is what it is. For those that need low ISO DR go out and get it. Whining about it while still taking photos with a Canon sensor that you are not happy with is not very productive.

You can either accept the status quo ("it is what it is") or proactively bringing the issue on the table. What you call "whining" is an expression of dissatisfaction of many here with Canon's momentum currently. Yes, I also support to simply get a different camera systems which fits better for the need. As long as Canon has nothing comparable in sensor technology on the table, the criticism of this lack will continue here - and even increase the longer it takes Canon to counteract.

Quite.

It gets to the point where we are seen as somehow odd for actually being able to 'manage' with what we have and not desperately crave a better sensor. It's got very old. Every other thread ends up like this now, couldn't we just have a sticky thread for those who want to whinge?

I and about 98% of other Canon dslr owners am doing just fine with what I have.

Like I mentioned a couple of days ago: Amazon germany does not offer a D810 and listed the D750 as D800s follow up. .

As far as I can remember they listed the 6D "discontinued" 3/4 of a year ago, too.

They just sell and do not know much abou WHATthey sell.

In theory, a good idea but not very practical. Obsessive types will still interject it into every thread. If the moderators were strict about it they could issue warnings and suspensions but you would then have to deal with sock puppets.

I have been interested in increased dynamic range in Canon sensors for many years, and also do participate in such discussions from time to time. But I do not for a second believe that the frequency of criticism of limited dynamic range in discussion fora like this has any significance at all on Canon's decisions or abilities to improve on it. If you want to talk to Canon, talk to Canon. It will not help to talk to everyone here and it will not make rational discussions about dynamic range in practice any easier.

And who is criticizing what they use? They can use a pinhole camera for all I care.

Isnt it a funny thing, that so many cry about Canon sensors lastlast generation DR here, while the "stupid" guys outside of a forum seem to believe the opposite:

Actual FF ranking at Amazon Germany:

6D # 19
D750 # 45
5D MK III # 51
D800 #56
D610 # 86
D810 not offered

Of course I should not forget to mention the alphas. Doent they use the same exmor tec, Nikon does? Why do they sell much more succesfull?

A7R # 9
A7 # 13
A7s # 25

I don't know about the German Amazon website, but in the US Amazon lists the A7 series under "compact system cameras" not "Digital SLRs". I doubt the German subsidiary would do differently, which would mean that the above comparison is completely irrelevant.

Edit: just confirmed it thanks to Google Translate - you were using the numerical assignments from two entirely separate and incomparable lists to try and prove your point. #9 on the dSLR list on Amazon Germany is the EOS 1200D.

Ups! You are absolutely right. Sorry. I was wondering about the A7s "success" myself. I deleted those alphas from my earlier post. Thank you for your correction. I myself do not like mirrorless cameras. All the hype is not shared by me. The only thing I like abot the a7 is the EVF, the first one I tested, that was usable and did not cause me headaches (real). Concerning all other features they can keep their stuff. To slow (AF) to uncomfortable in my hands. And to make the A7R a "high ISO" camera by using a 12MP FF sensor and sell it for a couple of hundreds more is imo a (bad) joke.

To get back to this thread. The 6D is by far the best camera (for my needs and way of photography) I ever used. If it is really discontinued, it would make me hope that Canon listend to me a second time and will bring a 6D II that offers all I am missing in the 6D: the joystick

1000% agree (concerning the joystick)
with my small zeiss lenses (25,50) i dont need a 5D or 1D or sony or any other mirrorless for landscapes because 6D + Zeiss delivers TOP quality in a small package !
with my small 35 f2IS and 135L I dont need any heavier and expensive wedding setup : because 6D + these light and fast f2 primes deliver TOP quality !
6D is a phantastic wedding camera ! I sware !
I am thinking to get a 2nd 6D body for less lens-switching...
and once there is a 6DII with joystick, it should be 2 6D2 bodies ...

but what if a 6DII wont have a joystick ?
then we should state: no 6D is perfect.

I got a headache after reading some of your posts. You all need to see the benefits of more DR sensor, my A7R takes better pictures than my 5D2 and 1Ds2 24hrs a day and I like it. None of current canon FF cam can full fill me on this desire.

I'm not a Sony fan--burned too many times by their pro audio gear--but used a 2.4 million dot Olympus EVF on an E-P5 for over a year and hated the EVF compared to optical. The VF-4 is supposed to be one of the best but bothered my eyes, especially in bright light (too dim, shadows blocked up and made me squint). I sold most of my MTF gear this Fall and bought a SL1 as my traveling light system really appreciate the old skool analog VF. So much easier on the eyes and brain.

You really need to see that most people that need the DR like yourself have moved on, and those that need things that Sony/Nikon cannot deliver will find other solutions.

I have waited 7 yrs for better canon sensor...skipped most of recent ones since nothing is better than 1Ds2 and 5D2. Waitting couple more yrs won't be matter much since I have A7R to work around with. Like other, i still prefer canon body in the long run
