Awesome shots here. Based on this thread, I bought this lens yesterday. I was having a hard time choosing between the Tamron, Sigma or the new 300/4 PF. I decided the zoom might come in handy and the Tammy is not only less expensive but lighter, so that tipped the scales for me. Nothing but backyard shots so far but I'm very impressed with the lens. Thanks everyone for sharing.
Everything I've read says it's better than the Sigma optically. I think it's built like a tank. I"m 6'4" and a big guy so carrying this thing is not really that bad using a shoulder strap like an R7. I think my old Canon 70-200 IS 2.8 FELT just as heavy.
One thing to keep in mind is that you tend to have to shoot at higher f/stops and shutter speeds. While it's certainly not an indoor lens, I've shot some indoors stuff with it although ending up with having to use a high ISO. It works but not ideal.
Personally I think the sharpness is right on par with any lens. This is a 100% crop unedited shot RAW and converted to jpg in CS6. Just a straight conversion. Details are fantastic. 1/160s | F9 | D750
Just bought the lens last week and took it along on a trip Went to the zoo while on a layover in Cologne.
Some observations:
1. 600mm is great
2. This lens is plenty sharp, my technique will be far more limiting than the optics.
3. Fits very nicely in a smallish Tamrac Velocity 9 sling pak. Easy to carry along on trips.
Here are a few from last week after about 7" snow. A "Round" of about 200+ Robins descended upon a neighbors cedar tree like a school of ravenous piranha. The cedar waxwings on the tree were not too happy.
Not My main stream of photography but as i was visiting Huntington Beach CA i was watching the surfers and said to myself, let the Tamron speak...
And by the way if any of you who live in Huntington Beach area know this guy please let him know that i shall email him the full res image at no cost if he contacts me.
