I really like the look of this lens, particularly the focus ring. Having owned the previous LTM version, it's great to see it updated and re-released. Sign me up for the cool, retro silver/ chrome/ black version!

OK, hmm - the 40mm is specifically designed for E-mount! So it's got an M mount, but is supposed to be used in conjunction with the VM-E, probably as the sole method of focusing. But there is also a comment about "rangefinder can be combined". . .

The Google translation of the Cosina:
HELIAR 40mm F2.8 is a lens specially designed for the purpose that it is used in combination with the VM-E Close Focus Adapter. It does not have a helicoid in the lens body is done by the operation of the helicoid ring of VM-E Close Focus Adapter is focusing. And has adopted the style of "expressions collapsed" to compact overall length to mobile / storage at the time that as a feature of the mechanism on, unlock by twisting the tip portion of the lens, is pushed into the body side.
Huh, interesting. Maybe Sony will come out with a pocket-sized NEX-5ish FE camera that'll go well with this little guy...

Wow! I love my CV Ultron 35 1.7! It's very sharp WO, has tons of POP, and is really small. The one drawback is the mfd of .9m...which apparently this new one addresses!! Let's see how the price comes into play, though. AND...how will it compare to the new ZM 35 1.4 that Zeiss just announced? I'm sure the Ultrons price will be much easier to swallow, but ZM will be a serious contender for A7(x) users! I, for one, am very curious to see how they stack up. Either might make me sell my C/Y Distagon 35 1.4 for a newer smaller version!!??

The 40 is very cool. Seems as though it might end up being fairly inexpensive given the lack of a helicoid. Of course, you need a Helicoid adapter (though it does not have to be the expensive VM-E I suppose)!
Old (both M and LTM version) had 8 elements, 6 groups, 52mm filter, 38.2mm long, 59.4mm diam
New 11 elements, 9 groups, 58mm filter, 55.2mm long, 64.8mm diam
MFD of the new one is 0.5m, the old isn't listed but I can see 0.3 on the focus scale on one of his pics on a different page. I don't have mine with me to verify actual focus.
If this plays well on the A7r I'll get one for sure.

Gregg---have you been shooting it on the A7?
would love to see samples if so
Yup. Took the lens to Hawaii last month and used it. Also took it to a theme park earlier this summer with my son and a friend. It's really sharp stopped down, too. I just don't like the mfd...I should just fork out the $$ for the CV close focus adapter for both my Ultron and Nokton(1.5)...but now maybe I won't have to!
PM your email, and I'll send over some pics!

The 35 1.7 Ultron I had was both sharp and rendered beautifully. My copy could produce some nasty CA wide open though. I used it on the NEX-5.
I'm sure this one will not be as inexpensive as the original. Maybe $600-700? The earlier Voigtlanders could apparently suffer major sample variation and I believe, as of the past few years, that has been resolved.

I thought the 40 was announced some time ago but I guess it never made production until now...? IIRC, because it's M mount, you should be able to use it on an M body as an infinity fixed focus lens. Obviously not ideal for many applications, but could be OK combined with stopped down use at closer distances. In any case, an interesting pancake option assuming it fits properly and doesn't have problems with the camera's RF cam/roller, etc., when collapsed.
Is the 35/1.7 optically revised? I have to admit I only used one briefly but felt kind of so-so about it. The look of the redesign though is a lot nicer than the old version.
As for the 15... I have one in M mount and its minimum focusing distance is 50cm. I believe the LTM allowed 30cm. My guess is the optical revision allows it to play much more nicely with the digital Leicas, and perhaps also the Sony a7 series. By the looks of it, it will be a fair bit wider and longer, though still relatively small.

Yes, it appears that it has been updated optically. The original was 8 elements, 6 groups and this one is 9 elements in 7 groups.

Agreed! Hoping it doesn't have a fixed lens hood like the 21/1.8 or 12/5.6. Would be nice to put square filters on it.
Unfortunately not "integrated lenshood (not detachable)"
I added the dimensions above

The 35 and 15 are interesting. You have to admire their commitment to the 35 focal length! I wonder if the 15 is revised and will perform better with regards to smearing / colour shift - you would hope that's why it's re released, rather than just cosmetic.
