At last a release date! I have the old LTM version and it is an exceptional lens. I hope that the Leica M mount version will be just as good and the closer focusing distance will come in really handy.

Price seems a bit steep in comparison to the Nokton 35 1.2, which is only a few hundred dollars more. Perhaps the performance will justify the price...
Over the long wait for this lens, I picked up another version 1 which I'm very happy with when used with a proper hood (the one that comes with the lens is fairly useless imo and the lens is very flare prone without a hood).

Any chance this will work well on the Sony?
The LTM version works spectacularly! No corner smearing(seems to be the case with most CV lenses in my experience)....and the new version is supposed to be made specifically for digital. I haven't tried the ltm on my A7rM, but it had no problems on just my A7

Old version is 8 Elements in 5 Groups vs new version is 9 elements in 7 groups, so it is revamped for digital like CV 15mm ver III which works with Sony A7's: http://voigtlaender.com/35-mm-f-1,7-ultron.html

I have seen film images shot with it by Tom Abrahamsson. You can try browsing his Flickr but it might be easier to check this Flickr group for the new M version.
Good to finally see the specs and prices. Glad they went with 46mm filter size. Price seems decent relative to the ZM option. I agree it's pretty close to the 35/1.2 II price, considering that Cameraquest just announced 'sale' prices for a bunch of Voigtlander lenses, dropping the 1.2 to $1000. I'm most interested to see what actual selling price will be in Japan, where these lenses have been selling for considerably less than pre-sale US prices. It could be that as a new product, it will launch rather high relative to existing lenses, typical of most other brands.
Cosina will release Voigtlander VM lens "ULTRON 35mm F1.7 Vintage Line" in August. Price brass silver 135,000 yen ($1,088), aluminum black 115,000 yen ($927).
I think those prices are inclusive the Japanese 8% sales tax. I found the lens listed at Map Camera for 112500 yen ($926 US) pre-tax in chrome and 95834 yen ($772 US) pre-tax in black. I couldn't find it at Yodobashi's site, but would expect the price at other Japanese retailers to be slightly higher, based on my shopping experience in Japan a couple months ago. Unfortunately Map Camera does not ship internationally... The question of course is how much more it will actually be in the US...
Oh, and if you look at the Map Camera listing, you can see what the lens hood looks like... I don't like it. Tom A has photos of an optional vented hood but doesn't know if it will be a regular production item. Read the comments here for more info.

Regarding performance on digital, the Map Camera listing includes this in the description:
(Machine translated) Optical system combined in styling to the good old days with the Han, considering the use of a digital camera, gave a new design in order to eliminate the fog color in the peripheral portion of the screen. You can enjoy the latest performance in the classical style...
We'll see if that means no color shift and also no image smearing.

When I searched it, it was announced in Germany at 1,000 Euro w/ silver version showing. I am guessing it will same as CV 50mm 1.5 M in US, $950-$1,000 silver and $800 black which matches to the Japanese prices...

Is the Euro price including VAT? If so, then it's close to the Map Camera price once you deduct VAT and account for exchange.
The 50/1.5 chrome is currently selling for $700 US equivalent at the pre-tax price at Map Camera. That's considerably less than the introductory US price. Cameraquest has it on sale for $950, B&H is at $1050....

Euro price is normally with VAT.
Yes, lenses are cheaper there and latest exchange rate difference adds up also for the older releases... Loxia 50mm is $200+ cheaper & ZM 35mm 1.4 is nearly $600 cheaper in JP per rakuten.global prices...

Yes, it's a reason I decided not to buy the ZM 35/1.4 locally. I still haven't bought one, and will wait for the 35/1.7 reviews first. Unfortunately the ZM wasn't available in the Japanese market when I was there, though it was already in limited availability elsewhere.
Thanks for pointing out Rakuten. It's an easier way to price shop Japan (Amazon is also good), though I noticed you have to be careful because each store may not offer the most competitive prices. You definitely need to check options and shop around.

Great? Ha ha. Great in that we were expecting it to be more originally but very expensive compared to the price of the original version. One very interesting aspect about the price though is that both chrome and black are priced the same $980 at Cameraquest/ Stephen Gandy. That's unusual as the chrome versions almost always carry a premium. So, that price is around a $50 or so premium as compared to the euro price with a straight conversion but is a whopping $258 or so premium over the euro price listed for the black version. I wonder why that is?

What camera/lens updated version price hasn't gone up a lot over the last 5+ years?
It's interesting how ~10 years ago the US market was almost always where the best prices were found. Not now. Maybe manufacturers are trying to make back some $$$ after suffering through the high Yen and weak USD?
It's now relatively easy to price shop globally and I definitely do this for many larger photo related purchases. One concern would be warranty and returns... So far my luck with Voigtlander lenses has been pretty good. No lemons out of the box. In the ~$1000 price range I'm willing to take a chance if I end up saving around $300.

I've been keeping a keen eye out for reviews and sample images. I like how it looks and the fact it does 46mm filters.
Regarding pricing and purchasing from overseas, I've now developed a habit of checking exchange rates on a daily basis (solely for the sake of purchasing gear from abroad). I'll then check the sites of those reputable stores from countries with favourable rates. There's a lot of aggregating to be done - tax deductible, tax on import, shipping and whether it's more worthwhile to buy locally given all the factors. I think it's a bit obsessive but it's saved me a fair amount. I think essentially the main risk that if the lens turns out to be a lemon you've to stomach the money lost from shipping the item to and fro and the tax on import. Provided the store provides some sort of returns policy. Also, I think some brands provide worldwide warranty, so it's not so bad.
p.3 #19 · Official: Voigtlander 35 F1.7 Ultron M mount
At least here in the states, there is almost never any import tax buying from Asia. Shipping is also very fast (like 4 days from Japan! via EMS, often quicker than going coast to coast) and there is hardly ever a shipping premium. This is a lens I will likely buy directly if I can easily save $250 -$300 or so on the black version.
As a side note, I seem to recall a lot of used photo equipment finding it's way to Japan/ Asia about a decade or so back. It now seems to be coming back to the states with the strength of the dollar.
As far as lens price increases, true for some but then we have those very aggressively priced Canon and NIkon F1.8 primes which, after inflation is taken into account, are probably no more than their ancient predecessors cost when new. Voigtlanders in general have certainly gone up dramatically 2/3x, probably due to popularity as much as anything else.

If it performs at the level of the CV 15v3 on the Sony A7 cameras, it will be worth every penny.
I think expectations are very high for this new 35/1.7 Ultron, to the point that it needs to outperform the CV 35/1.2 stopped down on the A7's corner to corner and match what the Zeiss ZM 35/1.4 does when used on either a Leica or modded A7 sensor. This needs to be a really outstanding lens in regards to performance to find widespread success imo (given the price/ performance of the other two mentioned).
