Sorry to take the thread down but our hearts hurt tonights so I need to type. Our Triumphs Von Whirling Thunder passed yesterday evening. He would have been 9 next month. We were on one of our walks with our other GSD and everything was great. Suddenly he lost his balance and laid down. I could see in his eyes the end was close. He had been a little off for a few weeks so I had a liver and kidney plus blood work done last week and all was negative. I am sure he either threw a clot or experienced a rupture of a tumor. I called my wife to where we were so I could get the truck to take him to the emergency vet. He kept fighting but as soon as possible I asked the vet to help him pass on. I held him tight until he was gone and that is as good as I could do for a dog that I consider a perfect example of his breed. He was ever vigilant of his family. He was serious but forever sweet. He was never aggressive but always ready to protect with his life (I could explain). His greatest joy was to please us and that he did until the day we had to let him go.
This picture was one of the last. Straight out of camera because I can't PP through the tears :-)
Sorry to rant but we miss him tonight!

And I cried too. There is nothing like the love of or for a dog. So sorry.
This is Mowgli, he was our first son, our best friend and our loyal companion. Mowgli brought so much joy and light to our lives. He passed away on July 2nd and nothing will take his empty place in our hearts. Rest in peace buddy, lots of toys and treats in heaven...we miss you

I am so sorry for you loss I grew as an only child and sometimes think I have more affinity for animals as you never question their love or loyalty.
