Our much loved dog Pepper the Dalmatian passed away a few days after Christmas, unfortunately she had to be put down due to failing health. Pepper was suffering from dementia, possibly had a small stroke on Boxing Day and her back legs were failing due to severe arthritis. She was stumbling around not knowing where she was walking into things and was struggling to get up at times. Our vet, who knows her very well, suggested that it was her time to go and we pretty much realised it ourselves.
It's very difficult to let go of a pet after it has been part of your family for almost 15 years and very much a part of our kids lives growing up. We are all devastated and heartbroken. RIP Pepper we will miss you dearly.
Pepper was one month shy of her 15th birthday, not a bad innings for a Dalmatian.
You may have seen her photos previously on this thread:
Lance - Condolences on losing Pepper. Her personality shines through your lovely pictures. Even when you know you are doing the right thing, it is always hard to lose a beloved family member.

Beautiful dog there Lance. Heartfelt condoleances from Kristina (kruemmelkasper who posted just one page back) and me.
We had to relieve Charly, Kristinas old Cocker, now almost 3 years ago, and we still often think of the little rascal and how much he is missed.
Keep the fond memories. You already have shown us a series of beautiful photographs, and I do hope those are not the last ones you share with us.
Thank you ever so much for your kind words of condolence. Much appreciated. Sorry for your loss as well. I know how difficult it is to lose a much loved pet.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I can tell that you love Pepper as much as we have loved our dogs. They are so much more than just pets. They are indeed family. Although it is never easy to end our beloved dogs lives, I do believe it is the greatest gift that we can give our fur babies... by taking away all of their pain and suffering.
It's been about three years since I had to do this for our first Golden Retriever, Indi. Oh dear, my eyes are welling up just thinking about this. He lived every second of his life to make my wife and I happy... just as I am sure Pepper did for your family. I think of him often and still miss him horribly. But I'm thankful for all the wonderful pictures I have of him, for all the great memories, and for having him in our life for 13 years and 3 months. What a true blessing he was to us. He not only brought us much joy, love and happiness, but also trained us to be even better parents for his future brother, Bene... who is our second Golden which we have now.
Wishing you and your family a speedy recovery from your broken heart and to be able to rejoice in Pepper's memories.

Thank you very much for your very kind words of sympathy and condolence, Don. Pepper is a very much missed member of the family, a part of our lives for almost 15 years, it is quite an empty feeling to not have her around to share in the family activities.
I am also so sorry to hear of your loss of Indi. I can tell he was as much a part of your family as Pepper was to ours, such an integral part. At least you now have Bene, to help soften the loss a little and to brighten up your future years.
Sorry for your loss Lance and Anthony, these furkids really know how to worm their way into our hearts. They take a good chunk when it's their time to leave us.
