Thanks Dan. The 80-200 f4 is a lens I have not used on digital before. It's quite a surprise to see how sharp it can be. Then again, the 12 megapixel D3 is more forgiving then my girlfriends D800

I owned the 80-200 f/2.8D 2 ring a while back and it was a shockingly good lens, even on D7100 (which has higher pixel density than D800 even). Good stuff.
I also own that 80-200 f2,8D and agree on the optical quality of the lens. It focuses pretty fast as well. It's just too big to carry around all of the time. The 80-200 f4 Ai-S is a lot smaller.
