If that is indeed true, I suppose one could say that Canon has found yet another reason to 'limit' their cameras yet implement desired features from a market requirements engineering standpoint . Indeed if they were keen on catering to many shooting styles, they could just implement variable FPS along with nice sub-RAW options (e.g. something better than mRAW and sRAW that we have now) in the firmware.

In speaking to a Canon rep yesterday, he verified a couple things:

- It will NOT be in the 1d series form factor for build quality (as some have suggested)

- It will have a version of the 1Dx/5D3 AF, but will not be the same as the 1Dx

His hunches were that, while we night see a new sensor, "office rumors" were the same sensor as the 70d with better noise control, dual Digic, dual slots (possibly) and, as always, pop-up flash. He mentioned that he was not expecting an increase in

If this is all correct...then the price better be very competitive. Otherwise I'm leaning towards picking up a used 1DMK4. I feel like this would basically be an old 7D with (maybe) a stop better ISO and more AF points.

Odd request. Almost all the sports shooters I know shoot to fast CF cards, preview with Photo Mechanic and only send in captioned keepers for deadline. I doubt any of them would want to limit FPS because of WiFi use. The photographer can simply choose a lower FPS for those times.

Sadly, it sounds like a totally made up excuse to limit a feature set. Shame on Canon if they actually do this. So much for the mini-1DX.

His implication was the more pics taken, the longer to upload. A lot of A and other reporters complained about the length of uploads and how it slowed down the reporting process.

The D800 only does 4fps in FF mode so he must have meant file size, but get this, 8fps 7D at 18MP and 4fps D800 at 36MP shoot the same number of MB/s so his statement is just weird in every way possible. How can they complain about D800 but not 7D? And in so many other ways it doesn't make sense at all.

Wifi upload speeds are based on file size and bandwidth. It has nothing to do with camera frame rates. No one is sending thousands of photos real time from a camera to their editor to filter. Sounds like someone is confusing two different topics.

Except for the reference for the FPS being limited by WIFI (nobody transfers RAW/NEFs via WIFI -- it's intended for JPGs), everything else here makes a lot of sense. Sounds like a typical, if unexciting, incremental upgrade to the 7D on Canon's part...still a welcome upgrade for sure.

I guarantee the rep knows very very little about the camera at all.

Sports shooters for big media outlets like SI, will typically have runners for the memory cards that take them directly for transmission to the "home office". The shooters don't even get to see their results before they're used. I guess this is just for immediate online usage. Many photogs still want to do hands-on editing for the really "big shots" to be used in magazines.

Quote from an article in The Verge (Feb 2013) by Peter Miller, SI photographer:
"Now, the workflow is much simpler. Miller shoots, and has dedicated runners swapping out his memory cards. The runners use a proprietary system called Opus to upload the photos — Opus ingests the photos, and then grabs a small JPG to send to the editors in New York. The editors pick the JPGs they like, and then Opus transmits the huge RAW files for editing and use. But even Opus is a fairly new phenomenon, Miller said. "At first, we just sent the cards on the plane.""

For this kind of stuff, fast wi-fi transfers make sense.
For a huge amount of RAW data, swapping memory cars would be much faster.

The Canon rep is just guessing/hoping. This person has no inside information anymore than anyone on this thread.

Why restrict the FPS because of it though? If WiFi needs a slower FPS then have a slower mode for that.

God, I hope Canon doesn't do this as it will wreak of crippling for no reason.

I tend to agree with you, as I think Canon would know better than to put out a camera like the one described.

I didn't say anything about it restricting FPS. I was responding to the other post about wi-fi.
I was the first one to post the question about there being no correlation.

Wow, those new rumored specs are awesome! So hard to keep my expectations in check as it all sounds too good to be true.

No Wifi or touch screen is ok by me. If the EOS1 top plate means no pop up flash I'm good with that as well. Rather have less entry points for rain.

Can't wait for September.

You could still have a pop up flash, and the 1 series style top plate could refer to doing away with the mode dial.
