These are some excellent colors. Makes me want a D3S, but I never liked how the vertical grip area has no AF joystick on it. If I find it cheap enough (and unused enough) I don't think I'll care though.
Thanks! The lack of joystick doesn't bother me too much with this old af system. Not a ton of points like on the Z's. For the cost of these things it's a fun change of pace here and there.
I still use my D4/D5, I'm sure I'll more than survive using a D3S, since I have used one a few times to cover events. Always like the color reproduction from it. Kasper6188 wrote:

Trench Monkey, you old dog you, I remember you from way back when!!! 3D.Doug or Lex or Lexman, or whatever! Good to see you never waivered, dedicated to the Nikon way: F-type. I was at the old Nikon forums long ago, but I left in favor of Fred's forum that supported all my Photographic ways. Nikon, Leica, whatever...

I just looked and came on in 2006. I was far healthier then. My D700 is now doing deep IR. Nobody wanted any part of the foggy rear screen and minor peeling grip. Still going stronger than me. I finally de -fogged the screen with a week in desiccant.

Please tell us more about defogging the rear screen.
In the last year I picked up a D700 (to replace one with a broken shutter) and a D3s. Sold my D850. I decided I enjoyed shooting these older cameras a bit better and all I really needed was 12MP for the photo books I'm working on. The limitations in DR and MP actually make me work with a bit more intention. If I were a working pro I'd get something newer but these old cameras still have it and produce professional looking results for my passion projects. Batteries were a slight concern, but the Nikon originals for the D700 are holding up well and the new Wasabi I picked up for the D3s seems fine.
I also picked up the Nikkor 35 f/2D. A little gem of a lens on either camera. Especially nice balance on the D700.
The screen was fogged and never clear. I got some large bags of Silics Gel and put them in a freezer bag. A freezer bag is heavier than a refrigerator bag and stops moisture flow. I left it for a week or so and it cleared it p. IIRC fogging was a problem on many D700's. Just the camera and no caps with battery installed in the sealed bag. I never thought to take before and after pix,
ETA: I used 2 packets 4 ounces each. Probably way overkill but the camera had resisted other tries. Go at least a week, possibly 2. Moisture is sealed in.

Because I came across this thread, and found current D700 prices to be quite low now, I found myself a lightly used one with about 11k clicks on it, in very fine shape ($350!!). This feels like a very good upgrade from my old D300, which wasn't bad, but a camera I had gotten somewhat bored with. But I have some fine FX glass, and always meant to upgrade to a full frame body, so here I am finally. Time will tell if I will want more pixels; I had been looking at D850 prices over the last few years, but still too much for me. First impressions are great, and the files from this camera are really pretty! Dare I say 'yummy'? I'm also super happy to finally get the actual 17mm on my 17-35mm 2.8 lens, something I could only do previously with my film body. I'll post some pics once I sort out the image upload/hosting bit. Its been a while.. Thanks!
