The D3 was fine unless I needed to crop an image and then the resolution was too low. I bought a camera to convert to IR and chose the D610 with its 24MP sensor and its Live View capabilities for manual focusing.
The D610 uses current EN-EL15 batteries and it has dual SD card slots. With the D700 or D3 one needs to buy CF memory cards which is pretty much a dead end for cameras.
When the D610 sells used for less than $400 I cannot imagine buying older and less functional cameras. Life is short.

Some nice shots here. Long time Canon user and just picked up a D700 as my first Nikon. Ive owned Canon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, Kodak...never Nikon. Waiting on my lens I got off eBay to show up so I can finally try it out, looking forward to it.
I don't think many people are currently buying a D700 as their main camera. I imagine it has more to do with the specific experience of using the D700 and its image output.
My other camera is a Sony A1. I use the D700 on purpose at times. I like the old heavy metal body, the loud shutter, and the files from it.
Question for D3 owners? I just purchased a D3 from Phoenix Craigslist, Nikon OEM battery shows 4 on me ter and a second battery a DSTE shows o. What brand of non Nikon OEM batte r y would you recommend?, as i plan on r eplacing the worn out Nikon battery.

AFAICS the US based company Wasabi Power has the best name for third party batteries. Some people even claim their batteries would be better than the Nikon originals.
Morning, I have 3 original Nikon, 1 3rd party witch don't use or carry with me I leave it in the cabinet since I found out that there's something lose inside when you shake it.
I just don't want to know what it is and to me I can't trust it.

Probably the VR unit. A lot of people get spooked by the normal rattling.
The VR. On a third party batterie. When holding the batterie in your hand and shake there is something moving in the batterie. My original Nikon are solid nothing moves inside.

I thought you were referring to the lens. Pitch the battery. Throw it in the garbage bin outside away from anything flammable. I have mostly Wasabis. Never had a problem with them.
Take that bad battery to a Batteries Plus or some other place near you that accepts batteries for recycling. It will get disposed of properly.
