Shot on the M240 hand held and wide open at what is apparently the weakest area for this lens - near MFD work. Would have really appreciated IBIS to aid with steadying the image so I could focus at 10x magnification. But still managed and didn't have many notable focus misses. Impressed with this lens's handling of 'bokeh CA', or the lack of it. Definitely saw it in my 90AA-M images, as with the 50 Lux ASPH-M (which apparently Peter Karbe considers an APO, too) from the same outing. Pretty impressive IMO for a lens from the 70s (my copy is from 1981). Strongly prefer it over my Canon 70-200/4L IS, which I consider pretty decent itself....Show more →
Hi Ron,
If I do not need my Leica R 280mm f4 Apo Telyt or longer, my 180mm f3.4 Apo Telyt is still my go to lens (even after more than 30 years) for a focal length longer than either my M 90mm f2.5 Summarit or my R 100mm f2.8 Apo-Macro-Elmarit.

And some from the 90mm Summicron-R
softer than the 50mm, with a nice glow around the focal plane, but more contrast and saturation (the images with the 50mm were processed using Velvia 100F preses, couldn't do that with the 90mm samples)
Also, it handles flaring like a boss.
Weird little spot in my neighbourhood. There's a drop of maybe 20-30m through the forest to the river bed right behind that chair. No need for the shovel, I would say.

Has to endure a lot of green bokeh fringing (LoCA), but it works great against the sun

Derek, Very nice from 35lux. I finally give up and order one from ebay. I decide still go with M3 version, I actually prefer 50 frame line with M and most importantly it can focus down to 0.65M instead of 1M regular version.

I paid more than 35 Zeiss distagon retail
Which version you have?
congrats! hope you like it. i'll be interested to hear what you think of it, especially compared to your old 8 element cron, do you still have that?
i'm using the second version, i think i would definitely prefer the goggled version on an m camera though (can you post a picture of it on your m3 and m9 when you get it?). seems like maybe the early version is made better too and i like the idea of a focus lock and actual filter threads...
fwiw i find i get a big bump in contrast with no real change in exposure (on an a7 at least) stopping down from f/1.4 to f/1.7. most of my portraits/narrow dof stuff is done at f/2. stopping down to f/5.6 seems enough for decent landscape sharpness except in the extreme corners.

Sadly, I sold my 35cron V1. At certain stage I feel I no longer need a M setup after get S. Apparently, I am wrong about that. Some Older lens I should never sell, especially Leica old stuff. Now days, people just no longer build lens old way. They all looks the same or similar to my eyes. Those M stuff can be used many more years after I pass away
I think both version of pre_ASPH having M3 version. I haven't got the lens yet, but I am sure I will update you a pic of lens itself with M and image it make The early version indeed has infinity lock and focus tab was made with Metal but seems some of M3 2nd version also have the lock and made by metal, so I am a little confuse here. It seems like there are many flavors of these lens floating around with mix and match material and color. most of 2nd version has a plastic tab and later serNo claim have better coating.
In term of look compare to 35cron, the lux seems have a lot more character even though they definitly have similarity. I heard people claim this lux is pretty much the same configuration of 7 element v4cron, only it open up one stop which is a stretch (very low contrast and lots of glow). Will see.
Mine is painted black one with brass goggle and metal tab and infinity lock. the seller claim it is 2nd version, but from Leica wiki based on serNO, it should be 1st version. I will see if it take filter or not.
After went through all kinds of lens myself. I find I develop a unpredictable taste about lens, some lens I just like seems for no reason like in this case 35lux, and my old 35cron 8 element. I must admit, handling and look also play role here. I feel it is natural for people seek beauty through VF.
Again, love above samples.
Since it is pic thread.
Here is one with 35cron R (I very much like its bokeh, most time smooth with water color painting, strong coma can make funky stuff around corner, but somehow still love it )

Got the lens, I absolutely love it. Handling is superb, smooth focusing ring with nice drag. The render WO is gorgeous. Best of part, it is tiny.
The lens is front focus on my M240 though, but I will live with it. IT is very easy to compensate it.
A few images. These was before I find out it is front focus. I think I still front focus in most those images but at longer distance, the DOF covers it better.
The sharpness WO is OK, definitely usable. I can image I will love it with BW and low light. I love those little glow, I think it looks very similar to Nikkor 35mm 1.4 AIS I had,(I should get that lens some day) but it is a leica and it is tiny.
Edit:
Here is one 100% crop after I figured it is front focus. I don't really need it is sharper than that for the way I use it.

glad you like it, i thought it would suite your style. i find using it and the resulting images much more satisfying than my more perfect lenses.

one thing to watch out for shooting at night is coma, point light sources can cause some seriously ugly effects at times. ...Show more →
True even stopped down. If you're shooting something with a row of lights that stretches across the frame, you get blob, blob, star, star, star, star, blob, blob. It's one of the reasons I started looking at alternative 35's for night shooting.
You are right about I might need another 35mm. It is what leica M for. I will wait a little bit though. This one is all I need for the time being.
I took a few more capture today, the more I use it, the more I am in love, though I have to say I expect what I get, I did quite a few time research about it before make decision.
Let's keep this thread going strong. I love the idea of lens thread.

Despite what I wrote and think of Zeiss ZM 35D I still miss the less than technically perfect 35mm glass hence my craving for Cron-M 35 v4 or the Lux 35 you just got.
It's hard to get it in a decent shape for 'non-collector' price but I hope to scoop one sooner or later.
