almost froze my hands off getting the shots, hand holding the 500 once the cold gets to it isn't fun and i keep forgetting to grab my gloves

Those last two are amazing Brian. I've been going after Snowy's a whole bunch this year here in Alberta. The one day I tried to go to the close by Great Grey hot spot I totally struck out and didn't see anything bigger than a Magpie all day.
Because most of my owl stuff this year has been shot with the 200-400...and even more because I don't want to follow those two...here's a shot with the 500 from MotoGP in Austin 2015 with the 500 and the D810:

i also have been going after snowy's but it seems they are just not in my books, i have been to some hot spots and don't even get to see one let alone photograph it
the MotoGP works, great shot, hope to see more before you sell the 500 (seen it on the b&s here)
