Finally I joined the club. The weather here had been sucky for a few week until very recently. Went to to shoot some snow geese and sand pipers yesterday with my new toy and the D810. Haven't done the macro adjustment thingy yet. The birds were pretty far from where I stood. All C &C are appreciated. And what kind of sandpiper do you thinks these are in #2?

Thanks for looking.

Thank you Brian for the welcome. On that trip I also brought a Sony a6000 (cropped sensor) with a 70-200mm lens. It captured A LOT of geese in the frame than the 500mm. It was quite a sight to watch thousands and thousands of them taking off at the same time. The noise was tremendous.

Went out to play around with the new to me 500 vr again yesterday. All hand held. I wasn't prepared to shoot the duck taking off so the shutter speed was a bit too slow but the ISO was ready at 3200. Not sure what the flare was in the duck taking off pictures, I don't think I was shooting into the sun.

Thanks for looking,

Douglas

You and me both, I can't wait! Love my D810 but miss 10fps shot choices of my old 1D4.

Nice Brian. Were the airshow shots handheld? When the airshow season kicks off here in April, I am thinking of trying the following combos:

1. D810+Sigma 150-600 Sport, I need the wider end for some formation shots.
2. D500+500mm VR G for single plane shots.

Can't wait

Douglas

Thank you Douglas
yes, all my shots are handheld, it's enough to schlep around a body and the 500 without adding a tripod in the mix

only time i use a tripod is for landscapes

those 2 sound like the perfect combo, April can't get here fast enough so i can see your shots, i just ordered my tickets for a nearby airshow but not till July, it'll be my first time seeing the Thunderbirds
