Ok I just got a really good shot of the right gold pin and you can see do to the pin not collapsing it just dug out a groove in the Canon lens contact black plastic part and cause that gold pin and others to go side ways egg shape instead of going inside the sleeve as it should.
I checked and it seams like the pins do push in fine but they don't and with the lenses I have just don't push in and just make a groove in the Canon contact black plastic part.
Ok so wait until if and when I hear from the ebay seller.
Please anyone that has a brand new King adapter please check your Canon lense contacts. I hope I have a new batch and no one will go thru this.
Well I read that the King adapter won't fit the Canon 85 mm 1.2 FYI. I did get a reply for the ebay seller and what I understand they are part of the factory ( I ask for a better understanding of that) and they will pay to get my Canon lenses repaired and refund or resend an adapter, but I asked if they will test it first on the same 3 lenses I own...I am surprised and happy they are telling me that they will pay for the damage that's a very good ebay seller and when it's all done I will post who they are good or bad after I see how they take care of me...
When did you get your King adapter? Mine is brand new and hope others won't have that problem like me, but maybe yours is older a few months ago maybe they did not have any issues with the gold pins and just the last batch does or I am the only one that was so lucky .
I bought mine on 2/28/13 and received it about 8-9 days after from this seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/201023366624?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 it looks from ebay listing this seller sold at least 58 of them so if there was a problem I am sure we would have heard about it.
If you have a good relationship with the seller who is a part of the factory, ask him/her a question nobody has an answer to, what chip is used in King adapter? There is a controversy where Metabones III claims they use 32-bit processor, and there are rumors that Chinese adapters (like King and others) are 8 and 16-bit, but nobody can confirm!!!.
Hello all, I have some news, these King adapters and maybe all of these Sony to Canon EF are a 8 bit CPU, and I think the Metabones is also a 8 bit as I recall the focus speed from the King on the only 1 lens that it works on and the metabones seams to focus the same speed.
I am not saying that the Metabones is a 8 bit or a 32 bit cpu, what I am saying is it's about the same speed and maybe Metabones says that there's is a 32 bit cpu to justifies the $400 selling price to the King at $160.
I am in the process of packing up my 3 Canon zooms that were damaged from the King adapter and shipping to Canon in VA for service and will be returning the King adapter as they want to inspect it and quite possibly to understand what the issues are and improve and update the adapter?
I will be posting on other sites the caution and what happened to my tonight to help prevent what happened to me to others..
so 8 bit CPU on King was confirmed? Thank you. You'd think 32bit CPU on Metabones would make a difference. Do you think Metabones are pulling our leg by advertising 32bit CPU? Unless of course the processor in a particular camera matters more than the processor in adapter. With that in mind, I would be interested to find out if same adapters achieve faster AF with same lenses on, lets say, Sony A6000 which might have a faster processor
Well it was confirmed to me that it's a 8 bit CPU and I really feel that the Metabones did not focus 2x or 3 faster as I really think in the A7r with it's type focusing system and to convert the Sony to Canon EF signal I can't say 100% if a 32 bit CPU would help.
I think soon someone will test that question and then maybe we will know the answer.
Ok back to the original point I wanted to make, the King overall quality is very good well build just like the Metabones, but the King does don't have the Arcia Swill mount that the Metabones has.
I also really liked that the inside the adapter in the rectangle box is lined with matte black felt and I feel it is way less reflecting light as the metabones could that is a huge plus I think based on some reviews I have read about the internal light reflections caused by that adapter.
It does come with a front and rear plastic caps a nice touch as the Metabones has nothing but a small bag with 2 allen wrench and a few replacement screws.
So I now feel if the King had worked as well as the Metabones as not damaging my Canon lenses I would say other than can't mount it on a RRS BH-55 directly the King is a very good value at $160.00 to $399.00.
My experience with the Metabones III adapter (Canon EF - Sony) has not been positive and B&H has agreed to take it back (they have been super nice about this).
Long story short, it simply doesn't fit any of my Canon lenses(!) but all my ZE lenses fit perfectly! Go figure! (Ditto with my friend's lenses: Zeiss ZE lenses fit while Canon EF lenses don't !)
Not just a tight fit mind you, but not fit at all.
The following Canon EF lenses have been tried and **_don't_** fit:
1) 24-70 mk II
2) 70-200 mk II
3) 70-200 f/4 L
4) 17-40 L
The following Zeiss lenses fit perfectly and effortlessly!(No excess force/pressure required!):
1) ZE 21 2.8
2) ZE 50 MP
3) ZE 100 MP
4) CY 100 Planar (with CY to EOS adapter)
5) ZE 35 1.4
This probably indicates a mount tolerance issue. One is tolerance of the adapter EF mount itself and the other is mount thickness variation or tolerances at the lens end of things!
But however, all the above lenses fit just fine on a Canon 5d mk II body and also on Canon's EF-to-EF-M Mount adapter, which means Canon's lens mounts are more accommodating.
So this is either a bad sample that I have received or a design marginality issue.
I have read reports of mount tightness and I have seen the post on DPR to loosen up the spring tension in the adapter. But my concern is that if I loosen it any further to fit my Canon
lenses, my Zeiss lenses will then have a loose fit. With the Zeiss lenses having more metal & being more dense, I am afraid of them falling off more with a sub-optimal fit !
(I have read Metabones' claim of the adapter being designed for Video use thereby going in the direction of tighter fit, but that doesn't help me in any way unfortunately!)
Also, I don't know how the spring tension/fit will hold over time. Will it get progressively looser after repeated use over several months? I don't know and haven't seen any reports of that yet.
-I have not been able to test for AF.
-I have not tested for adapter planarity (esp with my 21 2.8; since I knew that I was sending this back due to poor fit)
-$400 is not good enough _value_ for me for this adapter in its existing state. I expect more consistent fit and from other reports , better AF.
-Couldn't test for IS. I have read that the final image is stabilized due to correct communication of the IS signal between lens and CPU but I don't know if the live preview on EVF/monitor is stabilized before the image is taken. (**Should** work but dunno how well stabilized live preview works in reality)
Have ordered the King adapter (ordered it before the posts in this thread talked about potential issues!) and I might receive it this evening or tomorrow sometime.
Will report my findings for sure.
BTW, to those that have tried the Metabones, do you remember if they shipped it with front and rear caps?
I can't remember now (!) and so I am curious :-) ( Shucks, I am getting old!)

You must have gotten a bad sample of mbns3. 17-40 is a very popular choice on a7 and I don't hear many complaints
Hello no the Metabones don't come with any caps front or rear, just a small baggie and 2 allen wrenches and some extra screws.
Side note that I did not report on the Metabones that I got from Adorama that adapter was fine for all if my Canon EF lenses and my super old Canon 400 f4 DO and it auto focuses wow and with the Canon 1.4 x tele and I think with a 2x also but not both.
Then I ordered a Sony A7r for a show special and I got a discound on the Metabones 3 adapter for $375 so I got that from BH and when I went to use my Canon lenses that Metabones adapter was ultra tight and I could not mount any of my Canon lenses and I sent a email to them and they sent me a new adapter mount flange with the springs and it was some what easy to replace and that fixed that. I asked them why and was told that them mount flange was the problem as I read in the past those springs were so bent that they had issues with some Canon mount lenses but the person said not springs but the mount flange and he was right.
Also after I got done now I have a good click sound when mounting Canon lenses that was not there before.
So I think the QC was poor but in 4 days I had a DHL package delivery and what was funny I had to sign for it!
So for $400 or $160 the quality can be great or bad just depends on the run. I think as for the King unit they should test every batch that way the QC will be good, and I have spent $265.00 with returning and shipping for that and my 3 Canon lenses and they said they will pay for it..
I tried again my King adapter yesterday with my A7r on 17-40L and 70-200L 2.8, tried the AF with a Sony play app over my cell phone remotely and autofocus worked beautifully on both lenses. My King adapter goes easily on any of my Canon lenses, seems like I got a very good sample, no issues whatsoever.
Great glad to hear that! But please in the future when you put on a Canon mount lenses that you have not mounted before go very slow and feel for any binding or stops.
The autofocus speed is no where the speed or as accurate sometimes as the Sony E mount lenses but with non Sony lenses it can work quite well.
Adapter arrived last week and joined my $10 dummy adapter in the bag. Lenses are Canon 80-200L, Zeiss 21, 50 and CY Zeiss 28.
Went up to Skagit last night to check out the Tulip's progress. I was glad I brought up the dummy adapter with me since the King wasn't looking promising as I connected it with the Zeiss 21mm. AF isn't really my concern obviously but I do want to control aperture.
Results:
Canon 80-200L with King. Slow AF, but it gets there eventually and with exif. Nice sharp results again eventually. I use it for landscapes so I can wait
CY Zeiss 28 with King, you get exif. Works also with the dummy adapter. Had one instance of light leak.
Zeiss 50 ZE with King, you get nothing. Even with a Canon extension tube, doesn't connect electronically. No aperture so its wide open by default. Cleaned all contacts with deoxit. I assume this is some kind of QC/sample variation flaw.
Zeiss 21 ZE with King, connected electronically about half the time. So I got f11 and exif on half my shots. f2.8 and nothing the rest.
Those are my observations so far. I will contact the factory in China via ebay and see what they can offer. I hate to go metabones since its twice the cost and AF isn't really crucial to me. So far, if I have to have the shot I use the dummy adapter and the 28mm
The f stop is correct as Sony may display f3.2 but it should be 2.8 in the lense.
Also these adapters are slow 2 4 seconds is normal and sometimes its off not sure why but it happens so i now only do manual focusing much faster and I know its sharp but shutter bounce is some problems on images.

MY Metabones was one I got free with the camera. Originally you could hear a really bad 'scraping' sound when trying to mount lenses, and it was really tight, so Metabones sent me a replacement plate which was easy to fit, and fixed the problem 100%. No changes to the original springs needed.
Very happy, seems to work on all my lenses, including the ones listed above.
Also check the firmware on the Metabones and it should be .30. Mount it and lens so dust won't get on the sensor and go to the Sony and in the menu go to the firmware and it will show the Metabones FW. Maybe you have .20?
