Bill,
There are almost 275,000 FM members, of which, about 5,000 are signed in and online as I type this. Those are pretty good numbers for a photography forum. If a seller has had an item listed since October 1, 2013 and it hasn't sold as of April 9, 2014, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there is a reason it hasn't sold by now (assuming that the listing has been kept up-to-date, which, considering the age, I don't think is likely), and that the reason is probably not that there aren't enough members who would buy what he's selling. Regardless, the example you give is an outlier and is clearly not indicative of the norm. Nothing against new members- because we were all new at one point- but the B/S board isn't all of a sudden going to become much better if there was unfettered access for everyone. Coincidence or not, there have been no new threads of scams by members with no history since the new requirements went into effect.
I hope I'm not coming across as being arrogant or mean in any way, because that's not my intent. However, haven't we now seen enough posts that sound like complaints and/or resentment against the new requirements? The new requirements weren't designed to single any one person out- and they certainly aren't meant to imply that any particular person is a scammer or otherwise untrustworthy person. As has been pointed out, this is not the first site to implement such steps as part of a comprehensive fraud deterrence effort. For those members who have ideas on how to improve the system, PM Fred with your suggestions. These recent changes were partly born out of suggestions from members, so it is clear that Fred is willing to listen and try things that he hasn't done before. I'd think that is a more productive use of time than complaining in a thread.
I'll now step down from my soap box . If I didn't say it before, I'll say it now to all the new members: "Welcome to FM- the BEST photography forum (not just B/S board ) for photographers on the 'net!"...Show more →
Nice epistle Mitesh. And I mean epistle in the dictionary form as to eloquence with a point. Your points are all valid and simple to understand...to most here.
Fred initiated the rules for a reason that us "lifers" and those members before the rule(s) were installed are VERY aware of!!!!
As I stated before, the pain of the rules will not get you the gains you are looking for. At least not on FM B&S.
It is sort of like obtaining a driver's learners permit(here in the USA anyway).....you get most of the priviledges of driving but not all. There is a time period you must adhere to, restrictions, then you get your full driver's license. No learners permit or required drivers instruction certification, then no full driver's license!!! Short and simple!!!!
If you are interested in photography, the rules are of no consequence. You sell/ buy fair, like in kind is returned! New or not!
IF you are new and your item is not selling and you think it is because of being new, go "outside the box" and communicate with anyone interested or in your ad. Maybe you have to pay a bit for 'EBT' or whatever to insure your worthiness. The rewards will be bountiful in the feedback you receive, even if it is the first sale or buy!
What is worth to you?
Your interest in photography should map you thru the different forums and comment on the images you feel are worthy of comments. I am sure the 25 post requirement will be gone in a few days.
Now Mitesh, I would add, don't put that soap box away too soon. ..you, Will, AnthonyS..and others are the voice of reason here!

Nice Dan and Mitesh! Going outside the "9 dots" has success many times. Few want to do it here. You, Dan, did it for a "newbie" like me with zero feedback. We talked. We had a beer..and became fast friends for many years.
So from a newbie on my 1st sale be it large or small...take the extra step to COMMUNICATE. Granted I had only a few items to buy/sell but heh who knows what will be next!
