This really is disappointing, and the evidence keeps piling up.

Too bad. Even though I'd apparently be unaffected with a 6D, I really don't like to purchase from more companies with flippant attitudes than absolutely necessary. Canon will suffice in that regard!

I will however let them know my attitudes towards purchasing their lens. I already burned through 4 copies of bad 70-300's, and I think I got a good one by pure chance. 1 Tamron is enough for me, I prefer not fighting to get a decent product. And then wonder if it will function on whatever new body I decide

Anthony,

I guess I'm just lucky but my first copy of the Tharon 70-300 disn't even need MF and my copy of the 150-60omm was good but did need MF to +3. I don't do much BIF so this problem so many are having doesn't bother me much. I've not had any problem in the past with support from Sigma either,

What is the data? How many are reported being returned for this issue?

I have no idea. From reading the several threads here, I would say maybe 10-12 by FM members. You would then have to guess by interpolation how many there would be worldwide. 100 times that number, 1,000 that number?

IMO the 7D has very quirky AF and as Forrest Gump's mama said, "it's AF is like a box of chocolates, and you never know what your gonna get". One minute it can be in the sweet zone and can't miss, the next is can't AF for shit.

+1000000....the 7D has bipolar disorder worse than I do....

Why would it be a Canon problem? I have never had the same problem with any Canon body, from 20D, 40D, 7D, and all 1D-series bodies with any Canon lens, and that includes the 500 f4.5, 500 f4, and 500 f4 II, even when using a 1.4x TC.

I have 100% Canon equipment. Who else's problem would it be??

Tamron's, since they made the lens and it is supposed to be compatible with all Canon's.

As I'd be shooting (mostly) on a 6D, I'm pretty sure I'd have no issues either. At least none other than the learning curve. I do however have a little bit of an issue getting the lens without an answer. I went through 4 copies of the Tamron 70-300. And other than the one that flat out died, all of them had some sort of squirrely issue with the AF. So, color me a bit gunshy. Even though I got a working copy - I waited a year and a half!

I came back to see if jjbird had gotten an answer back from Tamron - or if they sent a letter saying they never received his 7D and lens!

Anyway, I'd really like to hear if it's a 7D issue, or crops in general (what about my little 60D I just can't give up?). Funny that all the bad shots I see are on crop. Yes, it could be the person on the other side of the lens which was my theory about all the bad shots being on crops. Still, the people with the 7D's and problems seem to know what they're doing. I'd like to hear something from Tamron other than "check the batteries".

I just received the rest of my Canon rebates - and they're stuck to my bulletin board just waiting to go to their greater reward at B&H. Will it be the Tamron? If Tamron doesn't have an answer it looks like they might hang out until April for the Sigma 50 f1.4 Art!

Tamron has returned my lens and 7D body. Have been traveling and will pick it up at UPS tomorrow. In all fairness to Tamron I do not want to post there response until I can retest it for the Aiservo issue. Will get this done and will post as soon as I can.
Sorry for the delay,
Jay

Eh, screw being fair to Tamron, they're the ones who put out a lens with weird issues. What'd they say?

Hello

Pretty well matches my experience. My 7D is a refurb and has been checked by Canon a couple of times, with no improvement.

You can tell by his comment that it wasn't what he wanted them to say, or perhaps expected them to say. Based on this I am very glad I returned mine in the window.

My post said I was having the same problem with Canon equipment! A 7D, Canon 500 f/4 and a Canon 1.4X TC MkII.

Never seemed to have an issue with my Tamron 70-300 VC on my 50D...focus was spot on in AI servo mode every time, and didn't need to take a "breath." As with all things, sometimes there are good copies, sometimes bad.

i have written about tamron customer support several times. I had a vacation zoom lens 28-270 or 28-300, i forget. It ended up locking up and I could no longer zoom. I went through their online support form and filled out a request for support and supposedly someone would get back to me in 72 hours. This never happened and I filled out another form and called and left a message on their voice mail. Nobody ever got back to me.

That was the last time I bought any of their products.

This may not be a Tamron problem. It may be a Canon problem. I quite often have the same problem as described in AI Servo with my 7D with a Canon 500 mm f/4 (original) when using it with a Canon 1.4X Mk II TC.

Hi bobs,

This might be a problem for Canon Service to fix, but it's definitely not a "Canon problem".

Or you might have better luck with a 70D. More consistent AF for me so far.

p.7 #20 · Tamrons Response To AI Servo Issue.

This is the results of sending my new Tamron 150-600 lens and my 7D body into Tamron because of my stated issue with poor to no tracking in Aiservo on my Canon 7D body. Three days after receiving my equipment, I received a phone call from Pat Simonetti Director Technical & Customer Service/Distribution Tampon USA, INC. I had been corresponding with Pat and he fully understood my issue. Pat informed me on two different days he personally tested my lens and 7D body in the Aiservo mode shooting BIF. He also had another 7D body for testing this issue. He stated that the based on the images he took there was no issue with how the Aiservo setting was working on BIF. Pat fully understood my concerns and I saw no reason in being argumentative with him. I am really disappointed that the images he shot were not sent to me along with my equipment. Thursday I tested everything again. I had a bright sunny day and started by shooting moving cars at different angles and directions. Trust me I am not new to shooting in Aiservo and BIF. I live four miles from L&D 14 on the Mississippi River and spend many hours photographing Eagles and other wildlife. I took 514 images that day and it was again proven to me that Tamron has a issue with certain Canon bodies. I can honestly say my keeper images were next to nothing even when shooting the cars. My shutter speeds were between!/1000 and 1/2000 at F 7.1 Center point focus. Aiservo mode. I concentrated on shooting between 300 and 600mm. With these exact same settings, my Canon 6D yields vary good images, and vary poor from my 7D when shooting BIF in the AIservo mode, unless I am constantly pumping the focus button. I think my 6D images speak for themselves.

Vary disappointed in Tamrons denial of this issue with certain Canon bodies.
