Hmmm I've been looking for a 35mm equiv lens. So far no perfect contenders...looks like I might wait for the PL15 and see how that pans out.
If the 23mm 1.4 does not meet your expectation for a 35m equiv, then you may wait a long time more.
I love this lens, saying that I moved from Nikon 35mm 1.4G.
I think the 23mm balances very well on my XE-1. It's bigger than 18-55 in diameter but I feel it's lighter in weight.
I really like the 23mm's lens hood, very effective and protective.

Thanks for the heads-up about the rebates! A couple of weeks ago I fell and broke my X-E1 and 14mm lens. Today I bought an X-A1 with kit lens for a really good price, just to try it out. I am/was also considering the coming Sony A6000, but I'd prefer to stay with Fuji, so I hope this works out.

Any one know where the 27mm is in stock for the sale price of $200?
Bought mine from B&H. I placed the order this past Tuesday when it showed back ordered. I didn't mind since I'm not getting my X-T1 for a few weeks. On Friday got another email that it shipped.

There is a 70-200 equivalent coming this year
Still, there's a couple tele primes missing. Actually, after all the lenses on the roadmap are out, the couple of tele primes are pretty much all that's missing for non-supertele shooters.
I'd love to see a 90/2 and 135/2.8 OIS. An XC 70/2.8 could be fun too if it was suitably compact (as a pair with the XC 27/2.8)

I am going to eventually buy into the X camera system, but not at Fujfilm's ridiculous prices. No camera system is more transparently overpriced than Fujifilm's. The X-E1, just 2 years old can now be bought for $400. That is an amazing discount. I can find all of Fujifilm's lenses, or at least the ones I want, used for over 60% off in Shanghai China's used stores. All you have to do is wait for the value of this gear to plummet, as it certainly will. Then it becomes much more affordable.
Luckily for me, while I wait I have very decent gear to use in the mean time. ...Show more →
All mirrorless cameras are affected by this pricing freefall, some more than others.. The Panasonic GX1 still holds the record, it was selling for $199 while still a current body (introduced at $799), and that $199 was before the GX7 introduction, so the GX1 was still Panasonic's flagship compact body at the time. And of course the other notable one was the EOS M, which was selling for $299 in a kit last summer, not all that long after its introduction at $799
The X-E1 was introduced at $999, and sells new now for $599 after being replaced. That's actually a pretty decent maintenance of value by mirrorless standards.

The 23 is a little big on the M1. The lens isn't all that heavy, but it is chunky. It won't be unusable, certainly, but it feels better on the larger bodies.
I tried the 23 on the A1 (same body, different sensor), and while the lens is awesome, I found it a little unwieldy due to the size. Weight was fine. I'll be getting one later (it's second on my list now, after the 14), but may wait until I can acquire a T1 for it to live on.
I decided to go 18/35 instead for now, as the 18 in particular is just a perfect match for the A1/M1 body, big enough to hold onto and the aperture ring turns the slightly fiddly rear dial into just a button, but not too big.
I should note the HG-XM grip really improves handling for the M1/A1 bodies. I suspect that the 23 on a gripped M1 would handle very well.

The X-E1 price will probably drop more in the next few months as Fuji updates the X-E2 with more and more X-T1 features. I will probably buy one then with the 27MM (at sale price) as a pocketable second camera for Mrs. Sal to use. Sure...yeah...it's for the wife to use...it's a late Valentine!

Im considering the XF 60mm for some portrait work as well as macro though Ive read that auto focus can be slow. Anyone have experience using this lens with a X-E2 on moving subjects such as toddlers?

It's not good for moving subjects, and it's middling in speed using CDAF, but it locks very quickly in PDAF mode. I use it for shots of my kids, but don't expect blazing speed.
