I disagree wholeheartedly. I think Fuji's lens prices are very affordable for the quality of glass you get. The 14mm is simply phenomenal. If the same lens had the word Zeiss on it, they'd charge $1200-1400 and no one would blink. These lenses are a very high quality set and the prices are very reasonable given hoe good they are. And all manufacturers run sales throughout the year.
Fuji marketing understands the principles of recency. Give people an incentive to push the purchase button when they are making purchasing decisions. For a new line of cameras, that's more than once a year.
I know I only "need" the 56mm 1.2 to round out my kit, but every time Fuji launches a lens discount I get closer to pulling out the credit card. I may give in this time...must not give in...must not give in!

The facts speak otherwise. Fujifilm has had many many blow out sales on their lenses. Clearly they need better sales volume than what they get with their non sales volume. I never, ever see Canon or Nikon run such huge sales 3 to 4 times a year. Perhaps I miss something there.
Fujifilm lenses are overpriced for many people. I agree, they are quite good and were I a user of that system, I would not need a sale to buy up a bunch of lenses. But then again, I am not limited by price of any of my camera gear. Most people are not in that category.

People dislike it for the same reason they dislike the Sony 16/2.8. Lousy edge performance at wide apertures. It's a fast/wide street lens, not a wide landscape lens. Unfortunately when it was the only wide in the system that caused problems for people who wanted a wide landscape lens. Which is a lot of people.
yeah, trade offs
I love it as it is and I don't think I'd like it if it was super-corrected corner to corner because it probably wouldnt be as fast and/or small.
For sharp corner to corner I have the 14

Every time I buy a new Fuji lens, a week or so later some super deal comes out Oh well, I think these lenses are so good I'm okay paying the full price, just once I want to catch one of these deals.
What are people's opinions on the 55-200 R lens? I'm interested in this as a walk around/hiking for birds when I can't lug my Canon super telephotos along.

I am wondering the same thing. I did not take my order yet but it should be here in the next day or so. From the reviews I have read online, this lens should be pretty awesome. Sure its no f2.8 constant zoom like Canon and Nikon make, but it will hold me over just fine until Fuji releases theirs later this year. For $500, I think it is worth the buy until then.

It's big. And in my opinion it doesnt balance well on current X series cameras, it's a lens big enough to often require support (plus zoom) from your left hand, but then because of the left EVF you need to bring your left hand to the right side of your face, which feels a bit weird. I suspect it will be much better on an XT1.
Other than that the lens is pure quality in feel, construction, IQ and (low) AF noise. For some reason I suspect it is able to AF faster than my xe2 allows it to, which is another of the many reasons I want to try an XT1.
Bokeh is also surprisingly nice and smooth for a zoom.

Nikon's running lens rebates right now. http://nikonrumors.com/2014/02/09/the-new-nikon-lens-only-rebates-are-now-live.aspx/
Maybe not as big on most lenses as the Fuji discounts, but they have an entrenched clientele of millions upon millions of shooters. Fuji is trying to entice people to switch, since they are a small player in the market right now. Most Fuji users think the prices on these lenses are pretty reasonable given the speed and quality.

I just received my 55-200mm. It's big on my XE1 but not heavy as I thought it would be..
The lens is VERY sharp wide open at the long end 200mm. Compare to my Nikon 70-300mm VR, it's sharper, nicer bokeh. I used Nikon 70-200 f4 for a short period of time and I think Fuji 55-200 is on par regarding to sharpness and contrast, at a half price.
AF is as fast as Fuji 18-55, but I don't think this is the lens for birds in flying.
I think even if 55-200 were discounted at $600, it still would be a good buy, because its IQ is very comparative to Nikon 70-200 f4 which is twice more expensive.

I ordered the 23/1..4 yesterday from B&H - sure enough, the 4% rewards is no longer available. I looked on the internet - been removed from the web site - then I called and was informed by the salesman that truly the 4% had been withdrawn since the lens was on sale. They should return after the sale is over. Oh well, can't complain about $150 discount but wished I had ordered earlier in the week when the rewards would have added an additional $30 rebate.

I noticed that as well, when I placed my order on Sunday. The other lenses I ordered still said rewards were available, so hopefully they'll honor it for those, though the pricing structure has me concerned regarding the EDU site, since I am a member.
I suspect, given that the Manufacturer doesn't reimburse the full rebate amount, there may not be enough cheese in BH's profit on the 23mm to justify offering the 4% rewards during rebate period.
I just received notice that my new order of lenses is ready to be picked up today at the local UPS, super excited to give them a whirl! So far, I'm loving the Fuji environment, much more suiting to my shooting these days over the heft, and expense, of Nikon DSLRs.

For anyone interesting in the size of 55-200 relative to XE1/XE2, here are the quick shots.
Yes, it's big and long relative the body but when I handle the lens by my left hand while shooting, it's comfortable and balanced. Yes, look funny combo but it does take wonderful pictures ;-)
Hope this helps.

I just received my 23mm 1.4 as well. Amazing lens, SO SHARP at f1.4 !!! Yes, it's sharp and nice bokeh. This is the sharpest lens at 1.4 that I ever had, including Nikon full frame 35mm 1.4G and 50mm 1.4G !!!! Greatest buy I ever made! Now I just need 56mm 1.2 one or two years later when they have the rebate again ;-)

Oh, wow! that lens makes the body look more like a lens cap then a camera, when it's fully extended! Thanks for the pics! (I can only imagine what an XA/M1 would look like!)

With that rep, it will surely exceed my expectations
I, too, have been eyeballing the 56mm... though I haven't been TOO impressed with the sample images from Fuji. granted a couple were mis-focused, and it is f1.2 afterall... but I'll be waiting til I see some real world results, and probably for the rebates that may never come for it, as well!

Yeah, when I first tested the 55-200, my first thought was "wow, this lens is pretty darn big." Then I looked at the images, and immediately started saving to buy it. It is a little big (though still smaller than most DSLR telephotos), but it's got great image quality, and for APS-C, I haven't seen anything this size or smaller with similar optics. You normally have to go 70-200/4 size to get this level of image quality.
On the other hand, my 27mm arrived today. It really is just a wonderfully tiny little lens and pairs so well to my X-M1. (the images below are of the 27mm when I reviewed it, not my actual lens, but, well, it looks the same. http://admiringlight.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/27-2.jpg

I considered picking up an XM1 to pair with the 27mm since they can be had so cheap, making for a nice and compact EDC camera... How much/often do you miss having the viewfinder as compared to carting around your XE2?
p.4 #20 · New Fujifilm XF lens Rebates. Savings up to $250
If I'm after the super small form factor, which is most of the time I'll be using the 27mm, I don't really miss it at all. The X-M1 is a nice little camera. It's not quite as quick as the X-E2 in AF, but it's overall just as responsive (writes just as fast, thinks just as fast), as the M1 was the first X series ILC to get the upgraded processor. I don't use the X-M1 that often, preferring to use my X-E2 most of the time, but I don't really feel hindered by it, and the tilt screen lets me do things that are hard to do on the E2. Image quality is identical, so there's no step down there. If I want single lens single body, I'll bring that over the E2 every time, because it is much smaller...with the 27mm it fits in a jacket pocket easily.
