Yes, anxiously waiting. I ordered late so I may not be on the first shipping. I'll be watching to see results from everyone as they get theirs.
I pre-ordered mine on 1-9-14 from Adorama, so probably in the same boat. It will be interesting to get member reviews and postings with the lens.
Like I said a few threads ago, I ordered 1/1/14. I've got my beanbag settin' by the front door and my tripod with Induro Gimble Hear ready ready band waiting. We photographer enthuisast sure love our new toys, don't we.
Sharpness is relative, as you noted. I'm definitely waiting to rent one of these lenses. Those images look soft to me, and its hard to tell if its poor PP or what. But, based on what I see there I'd stick with the extra weight and carry my 500mm.
One or more items from this purchase are still out of stock as we haven't
yet received the merchandise from our supplier. We are sorry for any
inconvenience this may have caused. We will keep you posted periodically.
This is my 150-600mm order. Doesn't look good for 17th shipment. Guess we'll have to hang on a while.

As did I. Sure hope it ships on Friday.

I don't see how it could. Surely (don't call me Shirley) B&H at least needs time to check the shipment and send each order to labeling and shipping dept. This isn't the only shipments they will receive today, remember.
I'm definitely going to keep my 500/4L IS, but the SP 150-600 VC might be an excellent lens for travel. I'll be most interested to compare images from the SP at 420mm and 600mm, with the 300/2.8L IS + 1.4x III and 2x III.

Go ahead and stick with your 500mm. This zoom lens is lighter and less expensive, and is not being marketed to replace Canon 500mm lenses.
I don't think anybody said that is was going to replace a Canon 500mm, but if IQ is important, what I am seeing so far is softer images in which case there is a decision to make between weight/convenience and IQ. That of course is a personal decision.
There are cases where I have rented a 400mm DO because weight was specifically a concern and obviously this new lens would be a consideration for those instances as well .
It's obvious there is a lot of excitement over this new lens (similar to the A7/r release?) and I also hope it is a good performer - who wouldn't. But, it looks like the excitement has gone to the point where someone will post a link and claim sharp images and then when I followed the link the images (at least to my eye) look rather soft.
As we get more info about this lens, I certainly hope that things look better.
I can not afford right now - probably around March .
Sharpness for me will be a 25 % crop and printed on an all-in-one printer [ epson 837 ] on 8.5 X 11 bulk photo paper .
99 % of my printed shots are family where subject is more important than I Q .
I am also wondering how good the software that comes with it is ?
