Looks like from 1 to 5 stops of vibration control . I may be reading wrong or not understanding what I am reading .
It looks like the software is for vignetting .
"Sounds like u4/3 would work quite well for you " I already have the 7 D . I am all over the place - photo wise . Main trio is 10-22 , 17-55 , 70-200 + 2 X III . [ kind of stopped carrying the 180 macro ] check out profile for other lenses . When I changed from Nikon [ film ] to Canon , it was because of lenses available .
To be honest , I don't really count on IS . I don't say to myself , I can drop the speed because of the IS .
In fact , I probably get help from it [ IS ] because if camera says I can shoot at 1/60 I generally go to 1 / 125 . Like 1/60 is about a low as I go with out the pop up flash . Forget the 1 over focal length - - no way I am shoot at 12 mm and less than 1/60 .
I really don't know if IS is helping or not , but I do it on the 35-350 , 10-22 , 180 macro , 135-400 and the 70-300 - the few lenses I use that don't have IS . With RAW , sometimes I have to lighten .
Any lens over about 100 mm , I start seeing hand shake below about 1/150 . I know that is pretty good [ at least I am told that ] for shooting with a crop .

IS works, period. And it has nothing to do with exposure, or whether you shoot RAW or jpeg.

I have confirmation that my lens has arrived and is shipping out to me today from my camera store of choice (Norman Camera in Michigan)! Yippeeeeee
Their shipment has arrived

Yippee! is right Karl. Hope I get that letter from B&H tomorrow. I was hopping it would be here this evening but it was not. I ordered from them because I figured they might get it before the smaller stores. I guess it doesn't make any difference though..

Yeah, I cust got a Just Shipped notice from B&H. When they took the time to send me that Lens not received yey notice I thought the 17th shipping date was out of the question.
I just called B&H and my order will ship later today.
It's definitely not a fair comparison, but I'm going to see how well it does against my 400mm f/5.6L prime. First at native 400mm for each then at 600mm (with the 400mm up-scaled).
I sure hope someone will lock this lens down on a tripod and manually focus it on live view zoomed in just to see it's capabilities optically, I know I will.
Today while out chasing Eagles on the Hackensack River, I bumped into a guy who had this lens. He was clearly a newbie, because he talked about putting a 2x on it. Anyway he let me run it through its paces. For the record I shoot with a 1D MK IV with a 600 mkII and a 1.4 III.
It was mounted on a Canon 60D. I swung it on a perched immie which was pretty far off, but in range for a 600. First of all, I couldn't believe how light and compact it was, especially after lugging my rig around. It focused extremely fast and quiet. I didn't detect any IS running but I knew it was on. There's no doubt that the 6.3 aperture would be somewhat limiting even in decent light. With the higher iso performance of the newer cameras I think the average amateur wildlife photographer could easily live with it.
I couldn't really tell you about image quality by looking at the camera's screen, but from what I could tell, what I shot looked pretty good to me.
Considering the price, I think the lens is a real winner! Now the average photog can get out and get shots that he or she wouldn't dream of, without taking out a second mortgage.
I'm not in the habit of doing reviews, nor do I think I'm qualified to do so. I can say after shooting with Canon 500's and now a 600 II, I was more than impressed with this lens.
kbarrera - I carry an SD and an extra CF card in filter holder [ on camera strap . ] The cards are mainly so I can get other relatives shots on computer during meals but twice I used in other cameras . [ a 5D II and and 70 D ]
