My recently acquired copy of 35/2.8,late multicoated,"made in Japan" is actually quite good on the A7/NEX7/NEX5N and comparable to other good 35/2.8 primes from my collection.I don't see much difference between it and OM 35/2 either.
Wide open, my copy has a bit of a "glow", particularly around out-of-focus highlights. The glow disappears one stop down, and from f5.6 on, it's quite sharp and very contrasty.

@ TAGfan: the family image is a perfect capture, for me: the timing, the proud parent and grandparent. Lovely. And the WA rectilinear distortion is there, but does no harm at all, IMHO. Just made me smile: the acid test.

Hi folks
I'm interested in crossing over from MFT to the A7/7R, and have a few legacy lenses that I've always been reluctant to dispose of. I hate using a tripod hence I'm seeking your recommendations as to which is the best A7 model to go (A7/A7R) for to use hand held , and also which of the following lenses would be the best to use with suitable adaptors. All of the lenses are like mint and are the latest versions:

Hey, I've got the 85mm OM and a 50mm OM, the 85 I still find special even though I have 6-8 80-90mm lenses. The 50mm hasn't even made it to the camera and I know there are many versions. I have the newer 28mm nikon (AF with aperture) it seems nice but it really didn't scream to me. These are on the A7r. If you don't already have a sony based 24mp camera I'd go with the A7, it's more polished and getting the last 10% out of the A7r is at times a bit tough. I quite often just give up and boost the iso which eats resolution.
None of the wider lenses should really have problems on either camera so it really comes down to which you want to use. I have an A99 so I bought the A7r to try out the new sensor, both are very nice an both are quite usable at iso 3200. In my experience the A7r is a bit more acceptable at iso 6400 unless you need to tweak exposure in post. In which case the A99 is a bit noisier but doesn't have the same amp glow I see with the A7r.

Thanks SoulNibbler
It sounds as though the A7 might be my better option as far as the body is concerned.
As for the lenses, it seems that most of them should be good to try. Back in film camera days the Nikon 28mm AIS used to be regarded as one of Nikon's finest. Which aspect do you find lacking in your AF version?

Hi Guys
Thanks for your responses. Looking through the forum, the quality of the images particularly in the wide angle to standard range are excellent. I'm looking forward to now getting hold of an A7 to try mine.

I am very impressed with the quality of the images obtained from the A7 and the OM lenses, that I've seen on this forum. The combinations appear to work very well together.
My A7 is now on order, and I'm really looking forward to putting my set of OM lenses back into use once more, at their full frame perspectives.

I exclusively used the OM system for many years and I wish I never got rid of it all. I am very happy to be back to using some of them again and there is something almost OM like about the Sony A7 - the large viewfinder, shutter button on top, metal squarish feel body, etc.
I feel like I've come full circle...and I'm enjoying it
