Yeah, if the 28mm focal length appealed to me more, I'd probably get the Fe 28 for myself, and then the 21 becomes a no brainier. However, I know that I'd eventually end up getting the 16-35 anyway, since I prefer a zoom at the UWA focal lengths, so for my own kit I'm just going to save up to get that.
I really wish they'd released a 35/2 originally, instead of the FE 35/2.8. The Loxia is interesting, but really expensive. Somewhat curious about a CV 35/1.4 with helicoid adapter.

Isn't really a ton of other options though, unless you spend a lot of money and/or are willing to deal with a pretty big/heavy lens
I've had all the various 20/21mm legacy lens options and while many do demonstrate less distortion, they show higher levels of CA, softer corners until about f11 etc.
Something like a Zeiss 21 works fantastic, but pretty big/heavy not to mention pricey. 16-35 FE is a great lens at the wider focal lengths, but again, little big and not cheap.
I guess the Batis 25 should be a decent option, splitting the difference between the 28/2 and 21 UWA, but still nearly double the price. 25mm might not be a bad option though as its wider than 28 but may not always feel quite wide enough.
You are right about the distortion though, it is pretty heavy, but might be less of an issue in landscape shots with fewer straight lines to make it apparent.
So far I think I'm happier with mine than the FDn 20/2.8 and OM 21/3.5 I've previous had. I did really like the small size of the Zuiko though, optically it did require about f8 minimum for good sharpness, lacked a bit of contrast and really I don't know if the edges where any better.
I personally don't shoot wide that often, so I think for me carrying the UWA in my bag makes more sense than carrying around something kind of bulky like the 20/2.8 with adapter.
I need to try the new VC 15/4.5 mkIII, as that could be a nice option, but then again, 15mm is W I D E! Maybe too wide for most of my shots, where I can work with 21mm a bit easier.
Overall though for $248 I'm pretty happy with the performance, at least for the few days I've had it. Will put it through more paces next week along with a borrowed Rokinon 14mm (just to see a bit more how I can do with that wide of focal length)
The 28/2 FE though I'm really happy with for the money. Nice size/weight, surprisingly good bokeh, pairs well with the 55/1.8 FE both in style and handling, and the price was certainly right. Hopefully its the start of good things to come from Sony with regards to good quality yet reasonable priced lens, without the need for "G", "Zeiss" etc price tags. Basically something along the lines of what Fuji has achieved with the X glass. They aren't cheap, but aren't uber expensive either, perform well, don't have any fancy branding, decent size, speed/focal lengths enthusiast want etc.
I think Sony could do really well offering something like a non-G 85/2.0, and a 70-300 f4.5-6 in FE, pricing them in the $500 range. ...Show more →
