Joshua...what's your take on the FE 28?
Gregg, I love the lightweight and very small form factor. The combo with the A7 II reminds me a lot of my sold Leica-M 28mm Summicron on Leica M9. Punchy and sharp to about 90% of the frame at wide open and super sharp at f/4 all over the frame. In my opinion, it is a great lens at aperture from f/2 to f/2.8 or so for street shooting or as a walk around lens where you don't care about corner performance albeit a tad wide but really great for landscape if you stop down more to get the necessary depth-of-field.
I bought only the lens. Yes, for whatever reasons a lot of people are shying away from the adapter. Maybe because we think that it is gimmicky. Adding an attachment to change the filed of view/focal length is too amateurish . The level of distortion of the lens is quite a bit without any PP correction. I believe adding the adapter would increase the level of distortion. Well, for sure it would not reduce it. And I am relying on the profile correction on LR to do the correction job and it did a good job at it. I am not sure whether LR could detect the addition of the adapter that makes it a 21mm f/2.8. Yes, at $248 the price is not bad but I am eyeing another small lens that can cover my need for a small but even a wider angle than 21mm.

The adapters have a small magnetic connection that tells the lens when the adapters are attached, which limits the aperture to f2.8 for the UWA and f3.5 for the fisheye, and also lets the camera report the correct EXIF values with regards to focal length.
I would believe that LR could apply the proper correction profile assuming it reads the EXIF changes automatically. Certainly would be nice to not need to apply additional correction manually each and every time the adapter was on.
Haven't still haven't bought the adapter myself yet, but very pleased with the 28 FE overall. $248 though is a pretty tempting price...
On a related note, rather humorous DPR thread about a "major bug" in the 28 FE where a guy is trying to use some weird magnetic filter holder and having the incorrect aperture since its trigger the sensor making the camera think the UWA is attached. Works fine with normal filters of course, its just a weird magnetic filter attachment device that is causing the issue, but apparently Sony needs to account for any and all weird 3rd party accessories a user might have or else is a "bug".

Wow. That looks incredibly sharp. Definitely thinking about this lens to my native lens collection (although, on the other hand, I am tempted to just spring for the newly announced 25mm Batis).

I'm fascinated by this sort of marvels of human engineering! Great series. I'd love to see the pic that takes place right after this one. With the locks opening up. Any chance you shot that too?

My internet was done today for a couple of hours today so I went to the park to take some shots with my two new lenses, a Sony 28/2.0 and a Rokinon 24/1.4. Here are two pictures wide open and a shot around f11 on the Rokinon.
The Samyang 24mm and its 85 brother have been on my list for some time. But I keep shying away due to the size. How do you like the performance of that 24/1.4 (both wide-open, for some some shallow DOF and used in a more traditional landscapey kinda way at f8 or f11...)?
Worth bothering with for a Sony A7II (keeping in mind that I still own the Canon 6D, and could potentially use it there too)?
I currently have an old FD 24/2.8 for a much smaller sized carry-around lens on the Sony. But that has its own issues too.

I hear you and I got a hunch that the Batis would perform better. Although I am considering the Batis as well but I am also considering getting a CV 15mm III for a really small, compact and lightweight for covering my UWA needs. So, CV 15, 28mm f/2 and 55mm f/1.8 would cover the range nicely and, like mentioned before, this kit combo would be the ultimate small and lightweight travel gear. Well, add the Batis 85mm to that you are set for 99% of your shooting. On the other hand, the Batis 24mm would go nicely with the 35mm f/1.4 lens but the 35mm is too close to the 55mm FL-wise , and heavier.
