Spent some time today playing with the Minolta AF 200/2.8, non-HS. Two big pluses for an AF lens: a nice focus throw that isn't so long it's tough to focus quickly nor so short that it's tough to achieve critical focus, and a built-in hood. The hood on my copy is also something of a minus since it won't lock in when it's retracted, so if it's on the camera outside of the bag, the hood's extended and locked so it doesn't move. The tension on the focus could also be a little higher, but it's easy to move your fingers off it and retain a solid grip on the lens, so it's easy to work around.
It's designated an APO lens, and, while that certainly isn't as meaningful as it is on some of Leica and Zeiss' lenses, it is fairly well corrected for its age. I think it's fair to say it could keep up with the Canon 200/2.8L II or the Sigma APO 180 Macro, but no one will mistake it for the APO-Elmarit-R 180 or Zeiss APO-Sonnar 135.
A backlit test from 2.8 to 8, first shot is wide open, whole frame for context.
Peire, my pleasure. Post more

Jako, my kind of test shot!! What do you think, is it helping the R28? Do you find any WB differences with mod?

Two days in Wellington and lots of new images have appeared. Here's a small contribution from a walk around the harbour with the TS-E 24, which while heavy, is beautiful to use. All on an A7R

Two images with the lens left and right - greatly aids stitching, though the extreme sides do fall off a little
Some more A7S with 90mm f2 preASPH - photos from lunch time, i've not been overly picky because I'm loving the IQ so much that the subject is almost taking a back seat
Jack. That R28 ll shot on the last page is a stunner!! Incredible image!
And lots of other great images from last page, too!
