OMG, is this photo or master piece painting. Mesmerizing!!!!!
jfreak, shac - Summilux-M 50 ASPH is very unique. It will perform better on futured cameras; M or A/something. However, it's not necessary for great pictures.
Excellent shots everyone! If anyone is interested, as Jack noted on last page, the CV Nokton 50 1.5 ASPH is an incredible lens, and very similar to the Lux 50 ASPH in rendering. I am currently selling mine(stupid, I know!!! Trust me I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't have to
It's on the B/S board for $750 and it's the black version and in excellent shape. if anyone is interested, please feel free to PM or email me.

Jako, Its funny, as I wait for the lens to come tomorrow, I was wondering this evening that I might be buying M9 next and you just hinted to it or something of that sort.
Love the processing on this one Jack ! I've taken my father up there once (he reached the peak ... at 80 yrs old !) and have been there once for birding (heavy lenses et al.) but next I hope to get up there this Winter when the snows come.
Kevin, funny you mentioned your father. We took a gondola ride onto the mountain with a group of elderly Chinese tourists and few men within the group were 80+ years old. Well, despite rainy weather they didn't even bother with protective gear and no one wanted to claim with cains. They were so vigorous and surely outpasted my wife and other youngsters who tracked protected by full rain gear.
Considering all morning/evening excercise and dancing we saw on many streets it doesn't surprise me that Chinese people are so healhy and fit.
Yes, frosty and sunny Yellow Mountain may be the best.
Jaack...The locks pic is pretty awesome!
Great set Dale...The 3rd pic, the solitary rock shot is incredible!
Here are a few taken from our Hawaii trip this year. CV Ultron 35 1.7

I keep returning to the village of Lapush on the Washington State coast, home of the Quileute people and their fishing based culture. There is a strongly felt connection here...I hope it comes through in the images.
#1) A fisherman works the middle of the channel leading to the marina.
#2-4) Marina scenes...working boats.
#5) Not everyone realizes how dangerous it is to work the sea. The Quileute surely do.
Many of my weekends, and trips, are dedicated to birding. Now the Sony A7 and a lens or two comes with me for environmental subjects' in the areas I bird.
These from birding Hengsha Island last weekend :
1. A lady walks down a water pipeline after combing the beach. (sorry - just realised this was with a D800E at 600mm, hope you don't mind me leaving it in to set the scene) !
2 Perfectly good aquatic transport abandoned.
3. Piping water into the enclosed marshland.
4. More abandoned transport ?
Summilux-M 50 ASPH will perform better on Leica M than on A7R. This, from checking internet based comparisons, applies to stopped down infinity shots.
When shooting at f/1.4 to f/2.8 the differences may be minimal is any. Now, Lux 50 IMO screams to be shot WO otherwise lenses like Loxia, Sony or Zeiss ZM 50 would be better options for infinity stopped down captures (I believe Lux 50 has some field curvature even on Leica M)
As much as I like A7R/Lux 50 ASPH combo and can't complain about soft corners and colour cast (actually I never noticed any colour casting with Lux) I repeatedly recommend Voigtlander Nokton 50/1.5 ASPH LM (latest version)
Nokton performs very, very close to Lux when shot at f/1.5 - 2.8 so if you're looking for a lens with a character for close-mid distance shooting at wide apertures, Nokton would be my first choice.
I got brand new Lux-50 after purchasing C/V Nokton 50 and it was more of a curiosity purchase. Would I buy Lux again having Nokton already? Nope. I actually find Nokton to be better built than Lux. Summilux 50 glass and optical design may be on much higher level, but I can't stand its pullout hood (it simply feels cheap comparing to other Leica lenses I own), finish that is hard to keep clean (Zeiss' ZM silver finish is much better, IMO)
Lastly, two screws holding aperture ring got loose just after few weeks causing the ring to move. Not very impressive considering the name and price point.
My 5-6 months old silver Lux 50 may be for sale if $3300 USD fits anyone's price point. ...Show more →
Jack, thanks for the detailed explanation and the examples. Much appreciated. Your observations sound similar to what Steve Huff observed in his review. What surprised me was that the colors look quite similar between the two lenses. That surprises me (positively), since to my taste CV lenses (at least the CV 35 1.2 II and apparently the CV 75 1.8, too) have too much color pop. I prefer the cooler color rendition of Leica lenses. Is the Nokton 50 1.5's color rendition different from the other CV lenses or did you PP the two sample pictures to look alike?
