Nearby area with Prickly Pear Cacti starting to bloom yesterday at sunset. I want to go back in a day or two when they are peaking since the whole area has hundreds of these and could make for some nice landscapes and macro photo opportunities, but I like the few that I found yesterday flowering in the warm sunset light.

Recently I added the Viltrox 50F2 FE to my kit, since I am in the process of reducing weight. Shot a wedding with it Saturday on the A7CII. A fabulous lens!! Anyone on the fence about getting it, it's a delight.

Traditional (going back hundreds of years) Chendu opera. Dances, acrobatics, and the ancient "face off" performances (in which masks are instantly flipped on performers, once after another, before your eyes) were the centerpieces of the performances. The performers apprentice for years to learn their craft.
Unlike in the US, cameras were welcome in the theatre, and they appreciate the spreading the word. I speak no Mandarin whatsoever but was thoroughly entertained.

The size of the vapor cone on that first shot is insane!
Thank you Robert! That first shot is a typical case where 400mm is too long. The cone was a lot bigger than the picture showed. The jet was flying just above the water.
Hers is one MY FRIEND Jeff Deckman took, not sure what focal length he used. I think he had a Nikon 180-600.
The second shot is mine from the same sequence. If you look carefully, you can see the Coast Guard boat in the lower right corner.

Sounds like you are having a great time in China, Jim! In my previous life in the 80's, I was a tour guide in China. Of course the country has changed a lot since then.

Thank you. Yes, the trip was great…exhausting with the long days of work, but we met with lots of great people, had many great meals (including many things I have never eaten before…and I get around 🙂. The one day off was in Chengdu with the pandas and the theatre. I am still trying to shake off the jet lag a week later, though. Getting old is no fun.

Excellent! I like that you can see the CG boat. Adds context
