Some shots from this morning with the Trioplan 100mm f2.8. This lens does make some crazy bokeh.
In the right conditions, the rendering from this lens is somewhat magical. In other conditions, the bokeh reminds me of the Sony reflex mirror lens I had eight years ago (harsh and busy). You have me thinking about acquiring one….perhaps out of the boredom of producing the same old stuff.
This is a 9-image stitch, aka "Brenizer" or Bokeh panorama, with the Sigma 85/1.4 shot wide open.
This look is almost exactly what one could achieve on 8x10 shooting a 300mm f5.0 lens (in terms of angle of view and depth of field). On a full frame camera, you'd need a mythical 38mm f0.63 in this aspect ratio.

Based on my limited use of the Trioplan, the background has to be at least some distance ( a couple feet?) away from the subject for it to create the "bubble". It's also very difficult for me to have the subject in sharp focus, based on all the pictures I have taken with this lens, maybe it's just operator error.
