Not sure whether it is due to the rendition of the lens or just simply the model but it is lovely…

Joshua, you forgot a key component: The Photographer. Model and lens only provided part of the beauty of the image.

Thank you very much, Jim!

The colors are definitely “unusual” but I like them! And that’s from using IR filters on a full spectrum camera, huh?

Joshua, yes, the so-called IR-Chrome filter gives these results nominally in-camera. You can get similar results with a 590nm filter and flipping blue and red channels in Photoshop like these:

A quiet place by Jim, on Flickr

Sacrifice by Jim, on Flickr

You can also tone down the saturation or shift the color hues. Less permissive filters work best as BW. Many of the most famous BW landscape photos from Ansel Adams used either a dark red or infrared filter to yield dark skies contrasting vs white clouds and to differentiate foliage from dirt, rocks, or tree trunks.

I am no Adam’s, but this is an example of a more contrasty BW:

Back path by Jim, on Flickr

IR can also reveal unexpected patterns in things like rocks. Imagine a dull looking stone that suddenly looks like complex marble. At least for landscapes, IR is also fun/useful to cover bad shooting times for visible light. High noon? Perfect for IR, since contrast improves when light intensity increases. Conversions to either full spectrum or an internal filter with a particular wavelength cutoff run about $250, so they can be an interesting alternative to selling an old camera body.

Probably more than you wanted to know…

Best,
Jim

Love the orange/blue look for the second shot! That's really quite a remarkable result.

Summer magic hour with polarizer

Visited "Fetjeåfallet", a nearby waterfall, early in the AMs and was alone on the walk to the fall and while there, met perhaps 25 persons on the way back. It pays getting up early and if rainy and 12C then well, green becomes very green. Brought the 20G and 90G

Perisorius infaustus

It was a nice trip even if the gnats around the cabin and in the woods ignore mosquito nets and milder types of repellant and diesel is 25SEK/litre (8,95 USD/ gallon); the hours of darkness are few, this contrasts nicely with when I was there in January and it got dark at 3PM : )

Douglas, frost in early June is not uncommon here. This summer is unusually cold though. Two days last week at +28C, but now it's down to 10-15C again and rain almost every day. It's not all bad though. All the water means that the energy prices are way lower here than in most other places and we often get nice clouds.
Fantastic air show photos as always (and of course the hummingbirds too)! Sorry to hear about the terrible accident.

While in Ecuador last January, I updated my LR and this is one of the first images when I used the "select subject" feature to mask the woodpecker only and made the exposure adjustment, etc. only the WP. I am using that feature a lot since then.
