It is a heavy lens, regardless of what camera to which it is mounted. As a rule, I always have a strap on every camera I own. I am afraid to carry the camera alone without any additional support. However, with a lens as heavy as this one, especially when there is an adapter used as well, I carry it with the strap around me neck and then carry it by holding the lens. I wouldnt let it freely swing from my neck, just asking for trouble.

Thank you for your insight Ryan!

A few more from the ski series. I got back from Austria with many many pictures...

The 35 FE does an excellent job handling flare! Straight into the sun with a polarizer mounted

I also found the Smart Remote App quite useful. I positioned the camera and we sat on the table and started shooting, changing aperture and focus when needed. It only shoots JPEGS though...

All shot with the Sony A7 and the FE 35mm f/2.8 Zeiss. Amazing little lens...

Another set of great shots from the Alps, Alex Theodin!
I am planning a one week Haute Route ski tour in early may, planning to bring the A7r with the FE 24-70 that I have on order, your shots convince me that I will have to bring the FE35 as well. Luckily it is really light!

Hi Kumar, what is the aperture you used for that shot? Having used that lens for several years I am familiar with its rendition on Leica bodies. I have to say that the bokeh looks a little funky to me while the target is super sharp .

Hi Joshua,

that was wide open. This lens has the best bokeh of all my lenses under certain conditions, however I have noticed slight nervousness in the boken at mid distances as per the example.

Here is another example with same settinsg and similar distances however the nervousness is not too bad.

I didn't know it was a reproduction until I visited Florence. The original marble is in the Uffizi. I love that boar!

No, this one is outside Sydney Hospital in Sydney. I love that statue. Would love to see the original.

Another question, Kumar. How do you get that beautiful result with SEM 21? I have miserably failed ot get anything useable out of my Elmar 24, and I would love to get it to work on my A7R.

Hi Philippe,

I would not recommond anyone to buy a 21 SEM for the A7R. That said I am happy with the lens on A7R, and am slowly working out its quirks. For my WA requirements it is suitable, and I love its rendering. The advantage of the A7R are the cropability, hence I see a step up in the useabilty and performance over the Nex 6.

With examples I've seen ont he Net, I believe the main difference between its performance on A7R and A7 is with colour shifting at infinity (luckily not with smearing). Compared to Ron's samples I can see bars of shift on each edge. These can be remedied somewhat in PP. In B&W they're gone. I am confident over time people will come up with ways to solve this with PP. Apparently Leica cameras do similar processing.

The performance of the lens on A7R at mid distances (Indoors, city street, close trees) is surprisingly good with little / no shift.

With regards to the Elmar, what adapter are you using? I am using the Novoflex. Could make a difference as I'm not seeing the issues you are W.R.T the 50 Lux WO on the corners. Haven't checked WO @ infinity, will do and let you know.

Absolutely... it's great shooting into the sun. Not that we've had much since mine arrived.

I assume you are mounting your polarizer on the metal threads on the lens itself, not on the hood? Does the hood still fit on? Which polarizer did you elect to use... wondering if depth of the filter ring on some might cause fit issues.

SKumar, what adapter are you using with the 90 AA? It doesn't seem to show any mechanical vignetting.
