Picked up a Helios 44-2 last weekend and got to take it for a spin yesterday. I still can't get over the center sharpness at f/2 and the lack of LoCa on this lens I picked up for $5.

The old Augustinian abbey is somehow neglected and gloomy today, but the atmosphere in the library and corridors is still mysterious. Under the library's cupola,a whisper is still heard very clearly and loudly. Slowly everything is renewed and even the vines are grown and local wine is produced again as did the monks hundreds of years ago.

I want to explain how and why I normally only post 1 image of the Day on FM. Normally I post one image of the day as my Photo of the Day for my Photo Page on Facebook. I do not want to overwhelm my followers and friends with images. I then share that image to my Facebook Personal Page and then to FM and if the image is such that it fits multiple categories, then multiple times on FM. On Facebook I limit my image size to 1000 Pixels along the long axis. On FM I began to use the same number of Pixels but later changed the number of Pixels to 1500 along the long axis.

This is going to be a little different today. Below is my Image of the Day from Facebook for today but I am also including the image that I originally took of this same red barn.

The first image:

Photo taken late yesterday afternoon at 5:17 PM.

Looking at a Red Barn in late afternoon light.
Tripod mounted A7rII Kolari Vision UT sensor modified camera and Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron II Asph VM lens; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f8?, 1/160 second.
Exposure Corrected -0.10 Stops.

September 4, 2021
Along the intersection of Muse Road and Loch Valley Road, Weisenberg Township, PA.

More images of the Barn to come in the future.

I had gone back to the location of the second image and had hoped to take something similar, but the trees were fully leaved and the trees had grown.

The second image:

This was my first image taken of this Red Barn taken in Magic Hour, about 14 minutes before sunset.

Looking across a pond at a red barn and its reflection.
Tripod mounted Leica R 100mm f2.8 Apo-Macro-Elmarit lens and Sony A7r camera.
ISO 100, f8?, 1/15 second.

December 30, 2014
Across a Pond near the intersection of Muse Road and Loch Valley Road, Weisenberg Township or New Tripoli, PA.

Rich -- Both are very nice shots, but they of course invite comparisons. I prefer the most recent shot, as I like the perspective and elegance of the shot. The earlier one, although having more "atmosphere," I find too flat and cropping seems too tight compared to your newest. I love that you have so many subjects that you have re-shot over the years -- always interesting seeing your work.

Hi Jim,

Thank you. Yes, the shot taken in 2014 was awfully tight. At the time when taking the image as I recall, the next wider lens with me was my Leica R 50mm f2 Summicron or my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor and these were just too wide for the subject. Where I was taking the image I was unable to back-up or just about be standing on the road. Rich

Simply wonderful pictures! Can you tell us a little more of the backstory of where this is and who the people are that are visiting the site?
