Personally, I think the lens looks best at f/2. It seems to tame some of the wilder elements in the deep bokeh.
trying to decide whether keep the EF 70-300mm DO. it seems reasonably sharp with interesting bokeh at 300mm, but has quite the peculiar glow wide open in bright light.
here's a 50% crop:
also, one of my subjects decided to inspect some of my lenses when i was testing it out:

Lovely shots of a stunning model - I really like #1 & #3. Personally I'd be using the Samyang 14mm so I could stand as close to her as possible
Really like these shots. However they don't look as sharp as they might be and I'm wondering if you haven't hit the point of diffraction (or maybe just a software issue) ? On the D800E I use it's already noticeable at f11 and sometimes f8 with particular lenses. Anybody know if this is the same with the A7(r) ?
Hrm, I really like how that lens draws, and seems to give the Minolta a definite challenge.
That it does. I've had the Contax 2-3 times now, and it never ceases to amaze me. I ended up getting the MD 35-70 cause it was a steal, AND it has great colors, too. I had the Leica R Vario Elmar 35-70/4 Macro briefly, and while an excellent lens, I preferred the Contax, and so traded the R for a R Cron 50.
I'll have to get some tubes to use with the Contax, or even the MD. Which did you use for the MD 35-70? My only gripe with the MD, is that it only goes to 1:4 in macro, whereas the Contax someone told me, does 1:2.5.

Ha ha - wonderful. Seems to have some seed in it's bill, part of the attraction ?
not seed actually. i was trying to test the lens on humming birds and opened the window for clear shooting. my daughter had made a mess eating her granola though and a few juncos and chickadees wandered in to help clean up.
